Angeline Dotario
Angeline Hepa Dotario died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 18, 2006, after a long illness at the age of 73. A homemaker, she was born in Kapa‘a on Oct. 14, 1933, to William and Julia Kuhaulua Hepa.
Preceded in death by her husband, Especio “Slim” Dotario and infant Sybil Ann Dotario, she is survived by daughter, Cheryl Saunders; fiancé W. David White of Wallback, W. Va.; one grandson; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three stepsons, Rio Dotario, Donald (Masako) Dotario and Stanley Dotario, Sr.; nine step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Janet Hepa of Kapa‘a and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ on Jan. 6, beginning at 4 p.m. Respects may be made to the family during this time. Aloha attire is welcomed.

Joseph Rodrigues
Joseph “Sam” Rodrigues of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 26, 2006, at the age of 92.
Born in Kapa‘a on May 30, 1914, he retired as a mechanic with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his daughter Stephanie (Wayne) Rapozo of Lihu‘e; son Malcome (Sherry) Rodrigues of Kapa‘a; brother John Rodrigues of Lihu‘e; sisters Theresa (George) Fernandes of Kapa‘a and Mary Rapozo of Kilauea; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Amaral Rodrigues, and brother James Rodrigues.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Church Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Emma Paraniaque
Emma Koohukolo Napohaku Paraniaque of ‘Ele‘ele died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 25, 2006, at the age of 69.
Born in Koloa on March 3, 1937, she was a retired bus driver with Akita Enterprise.
She is survived by a son Eustaquio Paraniaque Jr. of Texas; five daughters, Valerie (Steve Moy) Anduha of Gardena, Calif., Janice (Alfred) Balauro of ‘Ele‘ele, Bernadette (Elliott F.) of ‘Ele‘ele, Alison of ‘Ele‘ele and Jaydene (Shane) Ishii of Koloa; five grandchildren; two brothers, Isaac (Barbara) Napohaku of Las Vegas and James Napohaku of Hanapepe; three sisters, Louisa Adolfo of Lihu‘e, Ellen (Val) Anduha of Gardena, Calif. and Julie Asato of Nanakuli, O‘ahu; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow.

Toshio Miyashiro
Toshio Miyashiro of ‘Ele‘ele died at Hale Kupuna on Dec. 25, 2006, at the age of 97.
Born in Honolulu, on July 18, 1909, he was a clerk with McBryde Sugar Co. and manager of McBryde Credit Union.
He is survived by his wife Hina; two sons, Alan (Judy) Miyashiro of San Ramon, Calif., and Wayne (Gale) Miyashiro of Waipahu, Hawai‘i; two daughters, Janice Bourgeois and Amy Miyashiro, both of Kahalu‘u, Hawai‘i; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Fusao (Aiko) Miyashiro; five sisters, Masako Nyuha, Matsue Sakoda, Yaeko Ono, Shigeko (Edward) Chock and Kazue Miyashiro; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ; service at 11:30 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Gilbert Barretto Sr.
Gilbert Freitas Barretto Sr. of Kapa‘a died at Garden Isle Healthcare on Dec. 20, 2006, at the age of 80. Born in Kealia on March 13, 1926, he was a retired tractor mechanic with Lihue Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Ibia Barretto; brothers Manuel “Mac“ Barretto, Frank Barretto Sr. and Joseph F. Barretto Jr.; and sisters Hilda Delabitoria and Mabel Branco. He is survived by four sons, Gilbert “Bully” (Lisa) Barretto Jr. of Wailua Homesteads, Glenn (Linda) Barretto of Waipio Gentry, O‘ahu, Patrick (Jennifer) Barretto of Kapa‘a and Brian (Shari) Barretto of Kapa‘a; three daughters, Joyce (Martin) Barretto Hernandez of Waipio Gentry, O‘ahu, Valerie (Marvin) Barretto-Oshita of Kapa‘a and Debbie (Lloyd) Barretto Haraguchi of Hanalei; 28 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred “Tony” Barretto of Kapa‘a and John (Carol) Barretto Sr. of Kapa‘a; three sisters, Alice (Archie) Fontanilla of Kaumakani, Madeline (Gary) Nelson of Lihu‘e and Lucy (William) Freitas of Kealia; sister-in-law Emily Barretto of Kapa‘a; and brother-in-law Ernest Branco of Kapa‘a. Carlina Basa Bobiles of Makaweli died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 28, 2006, at the age of 77.
Born in Makaweli on Dec. 14, 1929, she was a field laborer with Gay & Robinson.
Preceded in death by her husband Angel; sister Mercedes Menor; and brother Jaime Basa, she is survived by three sons, George Bobiles, Allen (Neives) Bobiles and Jeffrey (Vanessa) Bobiles; two daughters, Angela (Terrance) Parker and Marilyn (Jace) Bobiles; nine grandchildren, Sean Bobiles, Justin Bobiles, Cherene (Tim) Hardesty, Tanya, Sam, Dominic, Danielle, Erin Bobiles and Jace Schaefer Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; brother Elpedio (Barbara) Basa of Minnesota; two sisters, Josephine (Tad) Najta of Tulsa, Okla., and Paulina (George) Ikeda of Kona, Hawai‘i; and numerous relatives.

Washington “Simeon” Villanueva of ‘Ele‘ele died Dec. 25, 2006, at the age of 82.
Born Feb. 22, 1924, in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he retired as a heavy equipment operator for McBryde Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cresalina Villanueva; brother Fidelino Villanueva; and sister Benita Aguinaldo.
He is survived by daughter Crestine (Steve) Hauser of Long Beach, Calif., sons Wilber (Christine) Villanueva of ‘Ele‘ele and Henry (Carol) Villanueva of Los Angeles; grandsons Gunnar Hauser and Logan Villanueva; brother Corazon (Fe) Villanueva of ‘Ele‘ele; sisters Susana Llamas of the Philippines, Consolacion (Jaeme) Santos of the Philippines and Innocencia (Esteban) Agbayani of the Philippines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park.

Agnes Akaneke Permina Kualu Mahinai of Anahola died at home on Dec. 22, 2006, at the age of 77. Born in Makaweli Valley on Dec. 19, 1929, she was a Jehovah’s Witness.
Preceded in death by her husband Joseph Kaheleiki Mahinai Sr.; daughter Darleen Mapuana Clark; great-granddaughter Torrie; brothers Stanley “Lase” Yadao and William “Uncle Willie” Yadao, she is survived by one son, Joseph Kaheleiki Mahinai Jr.; four daughters, Sandra (Patrick) Miulani Mahinai, B. Magdalena Eisen
Magdalena “Maggie” Lopez Eisen of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, died Dec. 19, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center, at the age of 81.
Born Jan.17, 1925, in Makaweli, she is survived by her daughter Marsha (Thomas) Krieger of Hilo; sons Bradley (Janis) Eisen, Victor (Serena) Eisen of Hilo and Barry (Gaylyn) Eisen; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.; children from her first marriage Ronald Manuel, Robert Manuel, Evelyn Manuel, Raymond Manuel, Richard Manuel, Madaline Manuel, Roland Manuel and Marilyn Manuel; brothers Andrew Lopez of California and Moses Lopez of Kaua‘i; and sisters,Barbara Saballa and Dolores Reyes.
Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel, wake service at 6:30 p.m.

James A. Winters
Jim Winters, former air traffic controller, entrepreneur, Vietnam era veteran, professional baseball scout and Antioch Boy of the Year, died at home on Dec. 27, 2006, after a lengthy battle with colon cancer, at the age of 59.
Born March 31, 1947, in Oakland, Calif., he grew up in Antioch before joining the Air Force in 1966 and raised his family in the Pleasanton and Sacramento areas. He spent the last four years of his life on Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his sons, Ryan and Robb; former wife Shelly; dear friend Rose; brother Jon; Aunt Margaret and the Mahoney family; as well as numeorus close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Elizabeth and infant son Jeffrey.
A graveside service will be held at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe (241-6670) on Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. Donations can be made in Jim’s name to Kauai Hospice (245-7277), the American Cancer Society (245-2942) or St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Koloa (742-1955).
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Theresa T. Fujitani
Theresa T. Fujitani of Kapa‘a died Dec. 27, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 78.
Born June 29, 1928, in Kapa‘a, she was a licensed practical nurse.
She is survived by three brothers, Joseph Yutaka (Joy) Fujitani, Archie Atsushi (Susie) Fujitani and James Kiyoshi (Jane) Fujitani; three sisters, Geraldine Teruko Sellers, Linda M. (Lloyd) Ishii and Amy Fujitani; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a, where Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Benilda Rosete Yoro of Puhi died Dec. 24, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82.
Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband Leandro Yoro; son Ernesto (Anita) Yoro of Puhi; daughter-in-law Carmelita Yoro of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Casemira Rona and Eutrecina Rosete, both of the Philippines; brother Alfredo Rosete of the Philippines; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery.
