Johnny Jay Maglinti of Kalaheo died Jan 3, 2007, at Straub Clinic and Hospital at the age of 79.
Born on July 19, 1927, in Honolulu, he was a bartender at Kauai Hilton & Beach Villas and Outrigger Hotels Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by wife Alice Almeida Maglinti; parents Juan Sr. and Esidra M. Maglinti; brothers Alexander Maglinti, William Maglinti Sr., Antonio “Tony” Maglinti and George Maglinti; and sister Pacita “Pat” Castillo.
He is survived by five sisters, Gloria Santos and Agnes Hoyohoy of O‘ahu, Naty Saflor of Lihu‘e, Lourdes (Domingo) Alisna of Hanama‘ulu and Inky (Pancho) Ortiz of Texas; one brother, Vincent (Kina) Maglinti of O‘ahu; two sisters-in-law, Anna Seabury Maglinti of Wailua Houselots and Rosario “Rose” Maglinti of O‘ahu; three step-children, Landis (Virginia) Fu of New York, Vernon (Lynn) Fu of Lawa‘i and Ilona (Warren) Moritsugu of Koloa; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion where memorial services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow.
Henry Isamu Sasaki
Henry Isamu Sasaki of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, died on Dec. 31, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 80. He was born on Sept. 28, 1926. He is survived by his wife Mildred E. Sasaki; daughters, Claire Sasaki-Lundgren (Jack), Donna Muramoto (Nyles), Kathy Morishige (Gregg); four grandchildren, Mandi and Michael Muramoto and Kassy and Kelly Morishige; sisters, Nora Tada, Flora Cox and Helen Pruitt. Henry was the president and proprietor of Lihue Barbecue Inn, Ltd., a family restaurant established by his father Masaichi Sasaki in February 1940.
He and his wife Mildred operated the restaurant and took pride in serving quality food with friendly service to generations of customers.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Lihue Christian Church on 2943 Kress St. on Saturday, Jan. 13. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 10:30. The family requests no flowers.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Isabella C. Iida
Isabella C. Iida of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, died on Jan. 7, 2007, at the Pua Kea Regency, at the age of 86. Born on June 20, 1920, she was an administrator.
She was preceded in death by husband Joeseph Iida and son Charlie Iida.
She is survived by her son Harold (Vanessa) Iida of Virginia; daughters, Merilyn C. Costa of Honolulu and Jennis Christian of Kapa‘a; sister Frances (Raymond) Mendes of Kapa‘a; twenty-five grandchildren; fifty-five great-grandclidren; twenty-one great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Leonora R. Valvieja
Leonora R. Valvieja of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, died on Jan. 6, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 80. She was born on Dec. 30, 1926.
She is survived by her husband Mauro Valvieja; sons Ernesto Valvieja and Orlando (Rae Hiramoto) Valvieja; daughter Marlene (Phillip) Eliana; daughter-in-law Asun Valviieja; sister Pacita (Marcelo) Melchor; brother Remegio (Villanerea) Rincor; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Kapa‘a.
Mass officiated by Father Al will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Borthwick Kauai Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
