Tyrus Ceria-Lux had four three-point bombs and Jordan Cox added one as the Kaua‘i Red Raiders controlled the Kapa‘a Warriors 68-51 Tuesday night at the Kaua‘i High School Gym.
Coming off a win against Waimea, the Raiders looked to be more improved in their performance over Kapa‘a as Ceria-Lux took the helm of the shooting machine, finishing with a game-high 24 points, 16 coming in the second half when he launched his barrage of treys.
Kapa‘a had problems finding the hoop and finished with a paltry 8-for-22 from the charity line.
Combined with the quick Kaua‘i defense holding the Warriors to single-digit scoring in the first half, the Raiders controlled the tempo of the game despite a strong comeback effort by Kapa‘a in the third period.
Kapa‘a outgunned the Raiders 24-18 behind John Beralas who led the attack with 11 points, including Kapa‘a’s three three-pointers in the game.
Following Ceria-Lux, Basil Walton added 17 points and key rebounds followed by Jordan Cox finishing with 10 points to round out the Kaua‘i scoring leaders.
Beralas finished with 18 points to lead Kapa‘a followed by Daniel Lizama and Halem Medina each netting 10 points to round out the Warrior leaders.
With the win, Kaua‘i improves to 2-0 in the second round while Kapa‘a (0-2) looks for the win against Waimea Friday night in Menehuneland.
Tipoff for the Junior Varsity games is 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game following 20 minutes after the JV game.
