KALAHEO — Malu Vegas finished tied with Kawehi Louis-Diamond, but Ha‘aheo went on to down the Lihu‘e Kamakazes 43-14 in the county’s 12 and Under basketball action Monday.
Vegas got help from Makana Fujimoto, who dropped in 9 points, and Machaela Rapozo, who finished with 8 points for the pinkshirts.
Louis-Diamond led the bench-thin Kamakazes, followed by Siarah Perreira who notched a pair before fouling out late in the game.
In Game 2 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, Bristy Ann Agu played the low post for 9 points to lead Gee’s Angels to a 37-9 win.
Lauren Claypoole controlled the paint and added 8 marks in the win, with Reggie McCabe driving in for 7 points.
Despite the torrid defense exerted by the Angels, the Heat got 7 points from Jennifer Grady and a pair from Taylor Garcia.
“The big test comes when we go to the Big Island for their tournament at the end of next month,” Gee’s Angels’ head coach Cecil Gee said following the game.
Vakeesha Lagazo finished with a dozen points to lead Kaulupono to a 29-4 showing over Wailua in Game 3.
Following Lagazo, Taylor Delos Reyes and Krista Kali tucked in 4 points each.
“A lot of the girls are still in elementary school,” said Amanda Higa, a Wailua supporter. “They’re still 10 years old, but they wanted to play, so we’re here.”
Despite being stuck on the outside by the taller Kaulupono defenders, Kekai Gonsalves and Aliyah Cummings struck for a pair each.
12U boys results
Duke Pauli finished with a game-high 34 points to lead Team Central to a 68-17 win over the Lihu‘e Lakers in the first of four games Saturday.
Pauli got help from Keane Agoot and John Das, who chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Chavis Banasihan and Brenden Tillet led the Lakers’ effort with 8 and 5 points, respectively.
In the second of four games played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, Lance Miyashiro paced Wailua to a 43-26 win over Hanakila. Miyashiro finished with 25 points, followed by Treston Brede adding 10.
Gabe Diaz topped Hanakila’s scoring with a dozen, followed by James Stevens adding 4.
Kameron Perez and Kasen Delos Reyes led a balanced attack for the Lihu‘e Hammahs, who downed the Kalaheo Heat 37-16 in Game 3.
Perez finished with 10 points and Delos Reyes added 9. Kellen Aquino finished with 6 points on the night.
Tystin Gummerus led the Kalaheo attack with 7 points and Kelson Andrade helped out with 3 points.
Donovan Harrison finished with 16 points and Keoni Kenzie added 13 as Gee Unit got over Kaulupono 46-27 in Game 4. Adam Clark helped the win with 10 points.
Brandon Palacio sparked the Kaulupono effort with 13 points and Ariel Lahip added 7 points.
The county’s 12 and Under basketball program has the girls playing on Mondays and Wednesdays while the boys take the court on Thursdays and Saturdays.
