The Kaua‘i Society of Artists announces its annual membership show to be held March 17 through April 20 at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Lihu‘e. This year’s exhibition will be judged by Toni Martin, an O‘ahu-based artist, educator and gallery curator. The show opens with a reception and awards ceremony on March 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continues free to the public daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and to 8 p.m. on Fridays.
Entries will be accepted on March 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kukui Grove art space, located in Unit B-6, between Claire’s Accessories and Radio Shack. All dues-paying members of KSA are eligible to enter, and new members are welcome to join on entry day. It will be a semi-juried exhibition in which at least one work (that meets the entry criteria) from each artist entering will be accepted .
Artists may submit up to three pieces with a fee of $10 per entry. All 2-D and 3-D media are eligible. Due to space limitations there is a size limit of 48 inches in any dimension (height, width, or depth) which includes any frame, stand, etc. Artists with special art installation needs should call John at 821-8022 before entry day. Art must be original, created independently within the last three years, and not previously shown on Kaua‘i in a judged or juried show. All art must be complete, dry, and ready for display. Entry forms will be available on entry day, and at the (Art Framers Partners) The Art Shop in Lihu‘e and Davison Arts Gallery in Kapa‘a.
There will be a free lecture/slide show with exhibit juror Toni Martin on March 11, at 4 p.m.. in the Kukui Grove exhibit space. Martin is a professor of art and the director of Gallery ‘Iolani at Windward Community College on O‘ahu. She has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s from the University of Hawai‘i.
In 2005, she was awarded the University of Hawai‘i Award For Excellence in Teaching at Windward Community College. Her work is in several local, national and international collections. Martin has been accepted in three Pastel Society of America juried exhibitions in New York City, where she twice received awards. Her work has also been accepted and awarded in annual juried exhibitions of the Pastel Society of Hawaii. Martin’s work has also been included in the Artists of Hawai‘i Annual Exhibitions at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and the annual Japanese Chamber of Commerce Commitment to Excellence juried exhibitions.
