WAILUA — Kaua‘i High School’s Wiley Yoshioka won the overall, individual Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf title yesterday at the Wailua Golf course.
Yoshioka shot a combined 143 to win the title. He shot a 3-over-par at the last match at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course and a 2-under-par yesterday.
Because Kaua‘i had already won the team KIF spot, its top five players of Nikko Tacsiat, Yoshioka, Levi Miyashiro, Cory Orride and Jordan Cox already have their spots reserved at the state championships on the Big Island.
Only three state spots remained.
Bronzen Winters and Jet Levinthol of Kapa‘a High School and Noel Torres of Waimea secured those spots by shooting well yesterday.
Torres shot a 75 and 75 for a combined score of 150 for his spot. Winters shot a 75 and 77 for a combined 152. Levinthol made the cut with an 82 and 72, for a 154.
On the girls side, Kaua‘i High School’s Miki Ueoka won the individual girls title when she shot a combined score of 153. Last year, Ueoka took third for the indivual medals.
The girls state tournament will be held on May 8 and 9 at the Waikoloa King’s Course on the Big Island. The boys tournament will be the week after at the same course.
Last year the Kaua‘i boys team took third at states.
