Terroristic threatener gets five years
Bradley Michal, 42, of Kekaha, was re-sentenced Thursday to five years in prison after the state moved to revoke his prior probation. Michal was found guilty of first-degree terroristic threatening jury trial in 2001 and sentenced to 5 years probation and 1 year of incarceration. Michal threatened another man with a spear gun. The revocation of his probation stemmed family abuse charges he faced while on probation, as well as his failure to pass a drug test.
Texeira gets five years probation
Verrinna Texeira, 35, was re-sentenced Thursday to five years probation. Texeira pleaded guilty to second-degree theft on March 13, 2003 and was originally sentenced to five years probation and nine months incarceration. Prosecutors moved to revoke her probation because Texeria failed to follow all the terms and conditions of probation. Texeira admitted Thursday to failing to keep in touch with her probation officer and failing to pay restitution.
Jail time, fines for illegal water poisoning
Four Kaua‘i residents were sentenced to jail time and a $6,000 in fines Thursday for harvesting fish with bleach.
The men, William Wong, 55, of Wainiha, and David Carvalho, 43, Gavin Sadomiano, 28, and Aaron Hoff, 33, of Lawa‘i, were accused of poisoning waters to harvest fish. They pleaded guilty March 8 to cruelty to animals in Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe’s courtroom.
Watanabe sentenced Carvalho to 90 days jail, Hoff to 30 days jail, Wong to 60 days jail. Each was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine. Sadomiano was sentenced to time-served and 150 hours of community service.
Each defendant was additionally placed on one-year probation.
At the time of sentencing, David Gulko of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, spoke about the negative impact that introducing bleach into the ocean has on the environment.
