The Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association conducted three events within the past month, the Menehune Junior Golf Championship, Divots in the Dark and the Parent-Junior Golf Tournament.
Kauai junior golfers gathered at the Princeville Makai Golf Course (Lakes and Woods Course) on April 14-15 for the annual Menehune Jr. Golf Championship. Cory Oride, Kelli Oride, Weston Moniz, Dusty Psaila, Trevor Kua, Michael Miller, and Kelli Jim came out on top in their divisions.
For the annual KJGA Divots In The Dark Tournament held on April 20 at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course, the junior golfers put their skills to the test, playing after sunset, in the dark. The tournament featured an 18-hole putting tournament for novice players and a two-man team pairing older and younger players together in an alternate shot format played over three holes.
They used glowing golf balls and flashlights to guide their way through the course. At the end of the tournament, juniors get to keep the glow sticks that line the fairways, greens and flag sticks.
The latest event was last weekend’s Parent-Junior Golf Tournament at the Wailua Golf Course. Open to all KJGA members, the annual family oriented event paired 76 juniors in age divisions with their mom, dads, uncles, aunts, and friends in a two-man alternate shot format. Teams were awarded for low gross scores and a Peoria handicap scoring system highlighted the overall event that gave a chance for all teams to tally outstanding and lucky low net scores and the winning trophies.
The next tournament on schedule honors one of KJGA’s founding fathers, the 54-Hole Chica Ishii Stroke Play Championship at the Wailua Golf Course on May 19, 20, 26.
Tournament-ready KJGA members are reminded that the deadline for registration is Monday. For more KJGA, visit www.kjga.org. Results of the tournaments can be found in today’s Scoreboard on B3.
