LA JOLLA, Calif. — Police arrested three men overnight Tuesday in connection with the fatal beating of a professional surfer outside his La Jolla home.
Emery Kauanui, 24, from Kaua‘i, died Monday, four days after he was attacked by at least four men on Draper Avenue.
Police said Kauanui and another man were ejected from the Brew House bar Thursday evening for fighting.
That man showed up at Kauanui’s home at about 1:30 a.m. with at least three other men in their 20s. They punched and beat Kauanui repeatedly, but he was still alive when police arrived to investigate reports of a street fight.
Kauanui suffered head injuries, including a fractured skull. His condition deteriorated over the weekend, and he died Monday just before noon.
Police arrested Orlando Osuna, 22, Monday. Tuesday, detectives arrested Eric House, 20, in La Jolla. Thirty minutes later, detectives arrested 21-year-old Seth Cravens. Matthew Yanke, 20, surrendered to detectives at Police Headquarters.
Kauanui was born in Kaua‘i. He was a professional surfer sponsored by Liquid Foundation surf shop for about seven years, according to the Mission Beach store’s owner, Todd Bartlett.
