Five Kaua‘i Wranglers heading to New Mexico
PO‘IPU — Five Kaua‘i Wranglers qualified for the national finals following two days of rodeo action at the Wrangler State Finals held at the CJM Country Stables last weekend.
Sandra Akita, topping the Girls Breakaway competition, will be joined by Cory Carveiro who finished the two-day action by topping the Tie Down Roping event over Michael Andrade of the Big Island and Cole Hendrickson of Maui.
Carveiro also teamed with Kaua‘i cowboy Marcus Shimogawa to finish second in the Team Roping competition.
Shimogawa becomes the third Kaua‘i qualifier with a top finish in the Boys Breakaway competition.
Britni Ludington-Braun, a second place finisher in the Barrel Racing event, is the fourth qualifer with Taylor Ludington rounding out the Kaua‘i qualifiers who will head to Gallup, New Mexico for the national finals that will be held July 2 to 7.
Hanalei Canoe Club hosts run/walk
The Hanalei Canoe Club hosts its 27th Annual Ha’ena to Hanalei 8 Mile Run/Walk, 5K Run, 1 Mile Youth Run and Pancake Breakfast on Saturday June 2.
The 8 Mile Run/Walk begins at 6 a.m. and the 8 mile run begins at 7 a.m.
Participants in the 8 Mile Run/Walk will be shuttled from the Hanalei registration point at the Hanalei Pier, to Ke‘e Beach located in Ha‘ena State Park at the end of the road. Shuttle buses begin at 5 a.m.
The 5K Run (or walk) and the 1 Mile Youth Run begin and end at the Hanalei Pier. The 5K Run starts at 7 a.m. and the Youth Run immediately after.
The Pancake Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. at the Hanalei Canoe Club.
All runners and walkers enjoy the pancakes as part of their race fee. Friends, family and non-runners are invited to enjoy the breakfast for a donation of $5.

Entrants may also register at the Hanalei Canoe Club on Friday, June 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. or at 5 a.m. the morning of the race by the Hanalei Pier.
