Mid Pac Petroleum LLC, a Hawai‘i-based petroleum marketer and licensee of the Union 76 brand, was purchased by Hawai‘i-based Koko‘oha Investments Inc. from a Singapore investment firm late last month, according to a company statement.
Koko‘oha Investments is a corporation formed by Hawai‘i investors Walter Dods Jr., David Hulihee, Bill Mills and Jim Yates.
Yates left The Gas Co. to serve as president and chief executive officer at Mid Pac Petroleum. Christopher Dods, assistant vice president in the card services division for First Hawaiian Bank, will join the board of directors.
Koko‘oha Investments now has the exclusive right to use the Union 76 brand for fuel sales in Hawai‘i and control contracts to supply third-party dealers, marketers and commercial customers throughout the state.
Of the 51 Union 76-branded stations in Hawai‘i, Mid Pac Petroleum owns 36.
Mid Pac was the first petroleum retailer in the state to offer biodiesel.

accepting grant applications
Young Bros. Ltd. and Hawaiian Tug & Barge are now accepting grant applications for their Community Gift Giving Program for nonprofit organizations.
Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded to selected community organizations. Eligible applicants include groups that are dedicated to health, education, civic and community service, youth activities, cultural enrichment, the environment or special community projects. All applicants must be IRS-approved as a 501(c)3.
Young Bros. and Hawaiian Tug & Barge established the giving program in 2001 to support to charitable community organizations on each island. Since its inception, the program has given a total of $419,000 to more than 200 nonprofits in Hawai‘i.
The Kaua‘i Community Advisory Board includes Chair Wanda Shibata and members Jim McDowall, Eldean Scott and Millie Wellington.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 2 by 4 p.m.

New Princeville shop a ‘walk’ in the park
A new shoe store called Walking In Paradise has opened in the Princeville Shopping Center.
The business is dedicated to serving the lifestyle of North Shore visitors and residents by providing comfort shoes.
Walking In Paradise carries shoes, sandals and accessories by Keen, MBT, Mephisto, Merrell, Nike, Eric Javits, Donald J. Pliner, Olukai, Island Slipper and Ameribag.
The business will host a grand opening celebration from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday to coincide with Kahu ‘Aina celebration at the shopping center.
Brand representatives from Mephisto, Olukai, MBT and Keen will be on hand to answer questions. The event will also feature giveaways with purchase and free drawings for shoes.
For keiki, the store will be giving away jibbitz (jewelry for Crocs sandals).
The store is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
