Martha Horita
Martha Yoshiko Kurayuki Horita, of Lawa‘i, died at Garden Isle Healthcare on Oct. 2, 2007, at the age of 94.
Born in Koloa on July 29, 1913, she was a sample room technician with Kauai Pineapple Co.
She is survived by sons Harvey (Ella) Horita of Lawa‘i and Michael (Diane) Horita of Lihu‘e; daughter Barbara (Francis) Kaya; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were private. Family request no Koden.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Henry Uichi Tamura
Henry Uichi Tamura of Kapa‘a died on Sept. 30, 2007, at the age of 75. Born in Kilauea on June 15, 1932, he was the proprietor of Tamura Floor Sanding & Finishing.
He is survived by wife Shirley Tamura; son Amos (Victoria) Tamura; daughters Julie (Dan) Groves of Kapa‘a, Kathy (Patrick) Tamura of Waimea and Denise Tamura of Kapa‘a; daughter-in-law, Liane Tamura of Anahola; grandsons David White, Jr., Colton White, Kelson Francisco, Toby Groves and Tyler Groves; granddaughter Keiko Francisco; brothers, Misao Tamura, Alan (Aileen) Tamura, Toshisada (Emiko) Tamura and Richard (Anna) Tamura; numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by son Barney Tamura.
A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kapa‘a with visitation from 2 p.m. followed by services at 3 p.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Tamura family with arrangements.
Gabriel R. Santiago
Gabriel R. Santiago, of ‘Oma‘o, died Oct. 10, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 79.
Born Nov. 16, 1927, on Kaua‘i, he was a mechanic.
Preceded in death by his son Gabriel Santiago II, he is survived by his wife Lucia Santiago; daughters Stella (Ray) Da Costa and Frances Allen; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery pavilion in Hanapepe, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Lorenza Acido
Lorenza Acido of ‘Ele‘ele died Oct. 12, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 94.
Born Jan. 15, 1913, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband Lazaro Acido; sons Lazaro Jr. and Perfecto Acido and grandson Kekoa, she is survived by daughters Florida Butac, Angeles Villacorta, and Patrocenia Rivera; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may visit with the family from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Antoinette DeFries
Antoinette Heanu DeFries of Kilauea died on Oct. 22, 2007 at the age of 67.Born in Honolulu, she retired as a maintenance worker from Ching Young Village in Hanalei.
Preceded in death by four sisters: Lani Kalama, Esther Smythe, Josephine Keliikipi, and Emma DeFries; and four brothers, Hiram, Henry, Arthur, and John.
She is survived by her sisters: Violet Anakalea and Helen Sham of Oahu; brothers, Danny (Betty) DeFries and Victor (Gail) DeFries of California; companion, Honey Girl Hoomanawanui of Kilauea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services to be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at 3 p.m. at her home. Casual attire requested.
