The American Cancer Society’s “Hoedown for Hope” at the Kilohana Luau Pavilion will be held Feb. 9, 2008, featuring live country music, Paniolo demonstrations, live and silent auctions with food and drink.
Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society, and more specifically patients on Kaua‘i and statewide.
“We anticipate that this will be one of Kaua‘i’s most high profile and exciting events of the year to support our local community’s efforts in combating a disease that touches each one of us in some capacity” said co-chair Michelle Emura. “This year the festivities feature a paniolo theme carried through in food, décor, music and events throughout the evening.”
The countdown for the hoedown begins this month with a request for sponsors, from the “Cattle Baron’s Challenge” level, up to $50,000, to the “Silver Buckle Sponsor” of $2,500, and individual tickets beginning at $100. Businesses and individuals can purchase tickets or tables and sponsorships as well as provide donations for the live and silent auctions.
Each year, 4,800 people in Hawai‘i are diagnosed with cancer. Funds from Hoedown for Hope will help provide services for patients and families, including supplies and medical equipment, educational materials, and quality of life programs such as Camp for Kids, Teens & Families, which provides weekend retreats for families of children who have completed or are receiving treatment for childhood cancer. “My child is a survivor who has benefited from programs like these. It is because of the continued research that our child is alive and healthy today,” said co-chair Lisa Lewis, born and raised in Kailua on O‘ahu, now living on Kaua‘i. “Hope is what keeps cancer patients fighting.”
