Julie Reiko Yukimura
Julie Reiko Yukimura, owner of the Kapaia Stitchery and active in the Kaua‘i community, died at her home in Lihu‘e on Nov. 6, 2007, at the age of 59.
Born on Sept. 15, 1948, in Lihu‘e, she was preceded in death by her father Yoshio Yukimura. A beloved daughter, sister, cousin, niece and auntie, she is survived by her mother Masako, brothers Paul (Karen) Yukimura and Peter (Lani) Yukimura, and sister Lisa (Ron) Jeffery; nieces Jennifer and Darcie Yukimura, Erin Jeffery; and nephews Scott, Koa, Ken and Neil Yukimura; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Julie attended Kauai High, the University of Kansas, and the University of Hawai‘i. She had a passion for fabric, sewing and needlework and started her own business, the Kapaia Stitchery, in 1973. Her business has become very well known through the years. Residents and tourists alike will remember Julie for her customer service, kindness and generosity, reflecting how she lived the aloha spirit. She has often been acknowledged for her aloha spirit and philanthropy to others.
A supporter of many good causes, Julie was active in the formative days of Hospice Kauai. She was a strong member of the Lihue Christian Church having served as moderator, Sunday School Director, and forming the Women’s Group whose members created quilts for the benefit of the church’s annual bazaar.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, Lihue Christian Church. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by the church and Kauai Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Julie R. Yukimura Charitable Fund,” P.O. Box 1327, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
Yoshio Matsuyoshi
Yoshio “Oscar” Matsuyoshi of Hanama‘ulu died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Nov. 2, 2007, at the age of 81.
He was born in Lihu‘e, on May 3, 1926, and retired from Lihue Sugar Plantation as a power plant operator.
He is survived by his wife Mildred; daughters Vivian McCravey of Honolulu, Claire (Mark Christian) Mindoro of Hanama‘ulu; sister Toshie Aquino of Lihu‘e, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held. Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Matsuyoshi family with arrangements.
Randy R. Rodgers
Randy R. Rodgers of Prince-ville died Nov. 6, 2007, at the age of 56. Born on Feb. 6, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas, he resided in Prescott, Ariz., for many years before moving to Kaua‘i in 1987. Randy was a general contractor and the president of Rodgers Construction, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his father Jesse Paul Rodgers and his mother Mary Elizabeth Rodgers.
He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl Rodgers; daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and Manuel Crain and Kristy and Cris Bunao of Kaua‘i; stepson Justin Yoshida of O‘ahu; grandchildren Lyndsey Crain, Cassandra Bunao, Larissa Crain, Kyara Bunao, Taylor Crain, Courtney Bunao and Kennah Bunao, all of Kaua‘i; brother James Rodgers of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother-in-law Frances Nishihara of O‘ahu; brother-in-law Keith (Mae-ann) Nishihara of O‘ahu; sister-in-law Karen (Richard) Hiroshige of O‘ahu; brother-in-law Craig (Alison) Nishihara of O‘ahu; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, beginning at noon at Kalihiwai Beach. The family requests casual attire.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Rodgers family with arrangements.
