KAPA‘A — Chanel Tremblay had two hat tricks and Eli Leech-Kritchman finished with 5 goals to lead the Sharks to a 13-7 edge over the Bruins.
Cascade Mayer unleashed her energy built up from playing goaltender last week to net 5 goals and an assist to lead the Green team to a 14-7 win over Imua in the Bantam division contest, Sunday.
Mathew Heller’s goal at the 8:08 mark, last Friday, provided the edge for the Midget Green’s 5-4 win over the Midget Blue who staged a strong comeback effort in the second half only to fall short against the tenacious Green defense.
Heller topped the Green effort with a hat trick and an assist, netting two of his three goals midway in the second half to build the 3-1 halftime lead against the Blue.
Keala Davis fueled the Blue second-half comeback, striking less than a minute into play. That goal was followed by a pair of nets from Zack Rodriguez, the first coming at the 17:43 mark and the final one knotting the contest, 4-4, at the 8:31 mark.
But Heller broke that stalemate and behind the Green defense, the Blue was held scoreless through the remainder of the contest.
Davis and Rodriguez each netted two goals to lead the Blue who got 28 saves on 33 attempts from goalkeeper Shane Shimanuki.
Green’s goaltender, Greg Balmores, finished with 40 saves on 44 shot attempts in the contest that saw Heller lead the offense with a hat trick and an assist.
Brandon Taylor and Marc Kawai Peahu each scored once with Ikaika Fuerte lending an assist before he became a victim of a broken skate wheel.
Tremblay got help from Eli Leech-Kritchman in leading the Sharks to a 4-4 halftime tie, Tremblay netting a first-half hat trick and Leech-Kritchman being released from goaltender duties with the arrival of the Sharks’ goalie Makani Crowder.
Tremblay continued to fire in the second half when the Sharks outgunned the Bruins 9-3 en route to their final victory, adding another hat trick in the second half.
Leech-Kritchman netted four second-half goals to finish with 5 goals. Tyler Lewis and McKenna Lewis each netted a goal; McKenna trying unsuccessfully to beat the first-half buzzer on a shot attempt in front of the goalmouth.
Edward Punua Jr. paced the Bruins’ attack with 5 goals followed by Kainalu Gandia whose performance was enhanced by several key stops of Tremblay shot-on-goals in the first half, and Shannon Sitzler.
Crowder finished the day with 16 saves on 23 attempts for the Sharks while the Bruins’ goalkeeper Joshua Lakotas was 27-for-40.
Following Mayer’s lead in the Bantam contest, Zack Lewis and Peahu each finished with 4 goals, Peahu also adding a pair of assists. Kala Yee rounded out the win with a goal and an assist and Sierra Mayer finished with an assist in Green’s victory.
Jean-Luc Tremblay and Corey Nemeth each finished with hat tricks for Imua with Kawai‘iki Punua adding a goal.
Grant Basquez, the Green’s goalkeeper, finished 27-for-34 while Lakotas, goaltending for Imua, was 18-for-32.
More hockey action is on tap for Sunday when the Squirt division opens play starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Kapa‘a inline skating facility.
Todd Mayer’s Green team will go up against the Devils in the Bantam division of the YMCA of Kaua‘i Inline Skating League’s finale which starts at 2:30 p.m.
The public is invited to view the competition in the renovated spectator-friendly rink at no charge.
