St. Joseph’s School defeated Kaua‘i High School 75-70 in double overtime to finish seventh in the Hawaiian Airlines/Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II State Boys Basketball Championships at Moanalua High School.
Kaua‘i trailed only by 2 points going into the half at 26-24 and kept it close throughout the third, finishing at 42-41.
Scott Taylor positioned himself on the arc to shoot for a 3-pointer which would’ve given the Raiders the lead late in the fourth. His shot bounced off the rim, but Travis Stine came up with the rebound and put it into the basket. Stine was fouled in the process, giving him one foul shot for a 3-point play. Sinking it, the Raiders held the lead with 1:18 left.
St. Joseph’s Jeremy Andrade got his hands on the ball and sunk a 3-pointer to tie the game. Kaua‘i’s Tyrus Ceria-Lux inbounded to Tino Ramos, trying to put Kaua‘i up and end the game, but St. Joseph came up with a steal to hold them off and send it into their first overtime.
Kaua‘i was able to score first when Jeremy Robinson sunk two baskets for a 4-point lead. But St. Joseph hit another 3-pointer to get within one. After Kaua‘i grabbed the lead again, St. Joseph hit yet another 3-pointer, sending them into the second overtime.
Walton led the Raiders with 22 points. Jacob Andrade led the Cardinals with 29 points.
