Ian Lactaotao scored four goals in Kapa‘a High School’s boys soccer team
8-0 blowout against McKinley High School yesterday at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex in the first round of the JN Automotive/HHSAA Division II State Soccer Championships. Kaua‘i High School also won its match yesterday, beating the Canefire of Christian Liberty 4-2.
“It wasn’t a very tough match,” Kapa‘a head coach Kevin Cram said of the Warriors matchup against the Tigers. “I don’t think they got a shot off of (goalie) Parker (Blaylock). They had one corner kick.”
The game was 3-0 going into the half compliments of Lactaotao, and two back-to-back goals from Chance Bukoski.
Lactaotao would score again in the opening minute of the second half, followed by goals from Dylan James and Joe Velasco.
Kapa‘a (1-0 HHSAA, 7-1-1 overall) advances to the quarterfinals to play No. 4 Kahuku High School (10-2-1) at 3 p.m. today.
For Kaua‘i, Keala Lovell struck early scoring in the opening 46 seconds of the match.
Josiah Motosue also scored midway through the half. Kaua‘i went into the break up 2-0 and returned to score 2 more goals.
Seth Quisel scored at the 44th and Canaan Bernard, in the 66th.
Christian Liberty rallied toward the end, scoring 2 goals — one from Isaac Grotenhuis and the other from Richard Moyland. Time would expire before Christian Liberty could catch up.
Kaua‘i (1-0, 4-2-2) advances to play top-ranked Honoka‘a High School (11-4) also at 3 p.m. today.
If both teams win today, Kapa‘å and Kaua‘i will find themselves playing each other in the semfinals tomorrow.
