Mary Ann Nester
Mary Ann Nester of Lihu‘e died on Feb. 7, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. She was born on May 3, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif., and retired as a school teacher with the County of Santa Barbara.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Emery Nester of Lihu‘e; son Tim (Carol) Nester of Kapa‘a; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bob and Betty Gillikin of Calif., Bob and Peggy Nestor of South Carolina; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzanne K. Richie.
A celebration of her life will begin with visitation at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion; inurnment to follow. Aloha attire is suggested and the family requests flowers be omitted.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the Nester family with arrangements.
Verna Ululani Goo-Nuuhiwa
Verna Ululani Goo-Nuuhiwa of Honolulu died March 1, 2008, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital at the age of 65. Born on July 25, 1942, in Lihu‘e, she was a travel agent and entertainer.
She is survived by son Harry Nuuhiwa; daughters Daniellee “Alohilani” Tine, Mari-Jann “Koko” Ah Quin and Verli-Ann “Momi” Nuuhiwa-Vrioni; brothers Alvin and Gaylan Goo; sisters Marilyn Aniu, Wanda Naumu, Foncet Alusa and Sybil Smith; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at Borthwick Mortuary, Maunakea Chapel; service at 7 p.m.; Burial service at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.
Borthwick Kauai Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Sueko T. Kaneshiro
Sueko T. Kaneshiro of Torrance, Calif., died on Feb. 17, 2008, in Torrance at the age of 89. She was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Hanama‘ulu.
She is survived by daughters Naomi (Glen) Terui, and Debby (Larry) Miyake; sons Bruce Kaneshiro and Lynn (Pat) Kaneshiro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private services were held.
Linda H. Ueoka
Linda H. Ueoka of Hanama‘ulu passed away on March 6, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 57. Born on June 27, 1950, in Honolulu, she was a property manager with RKU Enterprises Inc. She was a parent-volunteer with the Kauai Jr. Golf Association and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Lihu‘e Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Ueoka; sons Kelly Ueoka and Brycen Oi both of Honolulu; daughter Miki Ueoka of Hanama‘ulu; mother Lillian Miyake of Hanama‘ulu; brother Gary Tada of Lihu‘e; sister Joan Tada of Palo Alto, Calif.; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, at the Lihue Christian Church; service at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
