The North Shore’s first quilt show is June 12 to June 15 at The Church of the Pacific in Princeville. The four-day event offers classes for the beginning quilter and the more experienced quilter. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12, there will be two separate full-day classes for $45 each. Local teacher Edna Ray teaches a beginning class on using the equipment safely to achieve a precise quarter-inch seam necessary for piecing quilts. Anyone under the age of 18 can attend the classes for $35.
The other full-day class is with Sylvia Pippen teaching sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitch. Pippen will have designs, thread, needles and fabric available at an additional cost.
At 6:30 p.m. June 12, Carolyn Gregory, caretaker of the Prince Albert quilts (which used to hang at the Princeville Hotel) will give a lecture and display all the quilts. There will be a show-and-tell portion of the evening to allow individuals to share their own family quilts. Participants are encouraged to bring their own quilts to share the story. Lecture cost is $5.
At 6:30 p.m. June 13, play fabric bingo. Homemade desserts will be provided. All the prizes will be quilt-related and sponsored by Vicky’s Fabric, Kapaia Stitchery, Frank’s Sewing Center, Singer Discount Fabric, Superior Threads, Kona Bay and The Church of the Pacific.
