The Kamanawa Foundation presents its 8th annual Kaua‘i Polynesian Festival. The festival continues with three days of island-style food, arts and crafts, workshops, demonstrations; protocol ceremonies by Hawaiian, Maori, Samoan, Tahitian entourages; modern and traditional hula competitions, New Zealand chant and hula, Samoan fire knife competition, Tahitian dance and drumming workshops and competitions.
The festival runs today from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Festival tickets are $25 for three days or $10 per day. All dance participants and children under 5 free. Workshops are $25 each.

‘When Life Gives You Lemons’
7:30 tonight, KCP Puhi Theatre
Last weekend of an evening of comedy by Neil Simon presented by Kaua‘i Community Players. Sixteen actors play roles in six Neil Simon plays “The Odd Couple,” “The Sunshine Boys,” “Prisoner of Second Avenue,” “The Good Doctor,” “Plaza Suite” and “Chapter Two.” KCP President Wil Welsh, also a co-producer on the show, described the evening as an ideal follow-up to KCP’s production, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged.”
Make reservations early, as the performance space in the Puhi warehouse is limited to 40 seats. Reservations can be made by calling the KCP hotline at 245-7700. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students. The warehouse is located across from KCC about 100 yards behind the Harley-Davidson store.
Friday and Saturday performances begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 4 p.m.
La‘au lapa‘au workshop
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. tomorrow Kaua‘i Community College
Big Island Native Hawaiian healer Ikaika Dombrigues returns to Kaua‘i for a workshop at the Kauai Community College fine dining room. It will cover la‘au lapa‘au (herbal medicine), ho‘oponopono (problem solving), and ma‘ ola (cures). The cost is $75 and reservations are required.

Banana Poka Roundup
All day Sunday, Koke‘e
Named for the resilient and spreading banana poka vines that threaten to crowd out native Hawaiian plants and trees of the upland forest, the Banana Poka Round-up Sunday will have basket-makers demonstating how to weave the pliable vines of this invasive species into functional forms. To sign up for the basket workshop call 335-9975. The fee is $15.
The event will be in Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow where local crafters using recycled materials and non-native plants will present their wares. For the second year, keiki will be able to make walking sticks out of guava wood. Come enjoy this Koke‘e Museum education fair with Hawaiian music, environmental exhibitions, music and craft workshops.
It is free and open to the public. This day-long event is in its 19th year.
