HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — The Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s returns to South Huntington Beach Pier for two days, on Sunday and Monday. The event has upgraded considerably this season to an Association of Surfing Professionals Grade-4 event, making it the highest-rated ASP Pro Junior ever in North America.
As an ASP Grade-4, the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s boasts a $20,000 prize purse and ample points up for grabs, ensuring the event will have a major impact on the 2008 ASP North America Pro Junior ratings. First place will receive $3,500 and 1,500 points, which is the equivalent to winning three ASP Grade-2 events.
The field of 80 competitors includes 2007 ASP North America Pro Junior Champion Adam Wickwire of Florida in the top seed position, followed by current ratings leader on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series Cory Arrambide of California, Travis Beckman of Vero Beach, Fla., and 2006 ASP North America Junior Champion Eric Geiselman a New Smyrna Beach, Fla, who will all begin their run for the Pier Pressure title from the Round of 32.
Also gracing this year’s event will be west coast standouts Andrew Doheny of Newport Beach, Calif., Brent Reilly of Carlsbad, Calif., Nat Young of Santa Cruz and Riley Metcalf of San Clemente.
A Hawai‘i contingent, includes Nike 6.0 wildcards Kai Barger of Haiku and Dusty Payne of Lahaina, as well as O‘ahu’s Keanu Asing and Lahaina’s Granger Larsen.
