Namolokama hosts Open Water Swim

The Namolokama O’Hanalei Canoe Club will be hosting the 2nd Annual Open Water Swim at Hanalei Pier starting at 9 a.m. on July 26.

Pre-registration must be completed by July 11. Registration forms will be available online and at various surf shops, bike shops and athletic or swim clubs on the island.

KMRA to hold annual Labor Day races

Kauai Motocross Riders Association will be holding its Annual Labor Day Hare and Hound and Motocross Races on August 30 and 31 at the Wailua Motocross Track. The site for the Hare and Hound race will be announced at a later date.

KMRA’s next race will be at 10 a.m. on July 27.

McGladrey, Gulbis announce essay contest

Associates for the accounting firm RSM McGaldrey and LPGA star Natalie Gulbis announced on Monday a nationwide “Who’s Behind Your Success?” essay contest.

Inspired in part by Gulbis’ own personal essay about her father, the “Who’s Behind Your Success?” culminates with a grand prize package that consists of one lucky participant and a guest spending a day with Gulbis in her hometown of Las Vegas, including a morning workout and nine holes of golf, followed by a dinner with Gulbis.

The contest is open to anyone over age 18 and invites participants to submit essays of 200 words or less, highlighting the most influential and/or inspirational individual behind the success in their life. Essays can be submitted through Aug. 4, at the contest’s Web site,

One grand prize winner will be announced Oct. 21 during the National Championship rounds of The PGA McGladrey Team Championship. Five finalists will receive the following: TaylorMade Driver, Adidas golf shoes, a Canon Six PowerShot and a SkyCaddie SG-5.
