Ann Schlager
Ann P. Schlager of Princeville died June 11, 2008, in Salina, Kan., at the age of 71. She was born in Denver, Colo., to Herbert and Martha Prater.
She received a BGS degree from the University of Kansas with an emphasis in textile design and was a professional weaver for 10 years. She then received a masters of historical administration and museum studies from KU in 1986. She was the exhibits designer and collection manager of the ethnographic artifacts at the KU Museum of Anthropology until she retired in 1998. She and her husband retired to Hawai‘i where she was a volunteer at the Kaua‘i Museum. She was also a volunteer for the Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville, coordinating their quarterly book sales.
She is survived by husband Gunther “Jack,” sisters Sue Gossett and husband Newton of Longmont, Colo., and Lee Yost and husband William of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter Karen Stansberry and husband Gary of Salina, Kan.; sons Michael and wife Lolly of Houston, Texas, and Patrick of Kissimmee, Fla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Hawai‘i. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorials to The Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville.

Theodore Littlejohn
Theodore Chapin Littlejohn of Kea‘au, Hawai‘i, and formerly of Lihu‘e, died June 11, 2008, at Hilo Medical Center at the age of 84. Born June 30, 1923, in Honolulu, he was a retired accountant for Grove Farm on Kaua‘i and the former C. Brewer Company Ltd.
He is survived by wife Sue Littlejohn of Kea‘au, Hawai‘i, sons Fred Littlejohn of Oregon and Charlie Littlejohn of Oregon, daughters Mililani (Ted) Bair of Kea‘au, Hawai‘i, and Lori Lei (Ron) Wishon of Oregon, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the Paradise Park Church of the Nazarene in Kea‘au (Hawaiian Paradise Park on Uhaloa 32nd St., halfway between Paradise Dr. and Makuu Dr.). Casual attire is suggested.

Veronica Gomez
Veronica Puanani Gomez of Lawa‘i died at home on June 7, 2008, at the age of 67. She was born in ‘Ele‘ele on Aug. 3, 1940, to Ethel and Alex Gomez. Aunty Puanani graduated from St. Francis High School on O‘ahu and the Kauai Technical Institute. She retired from Kauai Electric after 30 years of service in the accounting department. She was also a retired officer and member of Hale O Na‘Ali‘i O Hawai‘i.
She is survived by brother James (Heike) Fujita; niece Michelle (Richard) Anama; nephews Chris (Jenny) Fujita, Kawika Fujita and Keola (Andrea) Fujita; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Laakea and Piikea Fujita, Kalei and Kanoa Fujita, and Kela and Pono Anama; cousins Luana Yamato, Nani Hall, and Ulu Lee; Uncle George Furtado; Aunt Mildred Miller; and numerous other cousins and friends.
Aunty Puanani will be remembered for her kind spirit and generous heart. She loved dancing kachi kachi, singing Hawaiian music, cooking and crocheting. She took care of many and was devoted to her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to all those who touched Aunty Puanani’s life, especially in her final days.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, at Holy Cross Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Gayle Kohatsu
Gayle Kehaulani Kohatsu of Kaua‘i died on May 30, 2008, at Straub Clinic and Hospital at the age of 59. Born on Aug. 25, 1948, in Honolulu, she lived on the island of Kaua‘i for 21 years.
She is survived by husband Eldon N. Kohatsu Sr.; sons Eldon N. (Rolinda) Kohatsu Jr., Michael H. K. (Lani) Kohatsu of Honolulu, Brian T. Kohatsu, Dean K.N. (Dayna) Kohatsu of Kaua‘i; daughter Marisa T.U. (James) Berardi of Kaua‘i; brothers Agenhart K. (Dorie) Ellis Jr., Daniel “Poki” (Hazel) Ellis, Gilbert “Kala” (Penny) Ellis of Honolulu, and Raynard (Janice) Ellis of Kaua‘i; sister Lianne Noelani (Harry) Donato of Honolulu; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren of Honolulu.
Services will be at Hanama‘ulu Beach Park (Big Pavilion) on Sunday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Kalapaki Bay Park Memorial Gardens on Kaua‘i at a later date.
Mary Ludington
Mary Achi Ludington of Waipouli died June 7, 2008, at Hale Kupuna Care Home at the age of 94. Born March 29, 1914, in Ann Arbor, Mich., she was retired 25 years from Hawaiian Airlines.
She was a member of the Harmony Chapter No. 4 of the Eastern Star, member of Hale O Na Ali‘i Hawaii Inc., Mokihana Club and the Kaua‘i Chinese Heritage Society. She also volunteered at the Kaua‘i Museum.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Ludington, brothers Stanford Achi, Richard Achi, Stanley Achi; sister Rebecca Allen, son Kunane Ludington and granddaughter Kehau Hazelbaker.
She is survived by daughter Ann (Greg) McIntosh, son Kaina (Bonnie) Ludington, daughter-in-law Betsy Ludington, sister-in-law June Achi, grandchildren James (Noe) Leake, Kaipo Ludington, Bobby (Theresa) Ludington, Ho’olai (Calvin) Braun, John (Chelsie) Ludington, Wilabeth Ludington, Jan (Homer) Blake, Mita (David) Kaneakua and Chris (Michelle) Ludington; 16 great-grandchildren and also one great-great-granddaughter.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church. Memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Daniel Funamura
Daniel “Chip” Funamura II of Las Vegas, Nev., died June 5, 2008, in Las Vegas at the age of 42. Born July 15, 1965, in Lihu‘e, he was a loan officer on Kaua‘i and Las Vegas, a poker dealer and successful professional gambler.
He was preceded in death by brother Stanley Funamura.
He is survived by parents Dan and Barbara Funamura, brother Mark Funamura, sister Joni (Rodney) Funamura-Sasil and niece Justice.
Family and friends may call from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Memorial services will be celebrated at 4 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Aloha attire is suggested.

Mose Koani
Mose “Moki” Kealoha Koani of Waimea died June 14, 2008, at his home in Waimea. Born Jan. 10, 1931, in Waimea, he was a retired electrical contractor, 1949 Kamehameha School Graduate and he served in the Army in the Korean War.
He is survived by brothers David K. Koani of Honolulu, George (Panaiwa) Koani of Waimea and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gilmath Brede
Gilmath L. Brede of Lihu‘e died June 13, 2008, at Straub Hospital at the age of 33. Born Aug. 6, 1974, in Kaua‘i, he was an A.C.O. with Kauai Community Correctional Center.
He is survived by wife Sheri Brede, daughters Kainani Brede, Gilla Brede, Mikaela Brede and Meilina Brede; father William A. Brede Jr., sisters Deborah K. (Joseph) Pinero and Julieann N. (Gilbert) Balai, brothers William A. Brede III and Shane R. (Susan) Brede, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at Kapaa Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Memorial services will begin at 1:15 p.m. Burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Herman Kane
Herman Kane Jr. of Kapa‘a died June 14, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 70. Born Jan. 7, 1938, in Waipouli, he was a lifelong beach boy and musician.
He is survived by son Dain (Wendy) Kane of Maui, three grandchildren, brother Durgh (Pomai) Kane of Hanama‘ulu, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at the North Lydgate Park. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Betty Measel
Betty H. Measel of Princeville died from cancer May 27, 2008, at Life Care Center of Hilo, at the age of 82. Born in Lexington, Ky., she was a well-known real estate broker on Kaua‘i and O‘ahu for over 30 years. She sat on the board of directors of Kauai Board of Realtors and Hawaii Association of Realtors, together with The American Heart Association, Kauai division, Republican Party of Hawai‘i, Kauai Republican Party and volunteered at Wilcox Hospital for over 20 years. Betty was loved by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by son Robert Measel Jr. (only child) on the Big Island, grandchildren Heather Measel of Princeville and Travis Measel of San Diego, Calif., daughter-in-law Antoinette Russell of Temecula, Calif., and numerous relatives in Texas and on the Mainland.
Private services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, at Hanalei Bay to celebrate her life. Please call for address and RSVP. Casual attire suggested. Please bring flowers and potluck style would be appreciated.

Kenneth Blume
Kenneth Milo Blume of Wailua Riverlots died June 15, 2008, at home at the age of 80. Born Jan. 23, 1928, in Salem, Ore., he was retired after 30 years from Lihue Plantation as the shop superintendent at Hanama‘ulu shop.
He is survived by wife Annie Blume, son Timothy (Irene) Blume, daughter Laura (Andrew) Higa, all of Wailua Homesteads, and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 20, with visitation from 2:30 p.m. with services and interment to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society and that flowers be omitted. Casual attire suggested.
