Veronica Gomez
Veronica Puanani Gomez of Lawa‘i died at home on June 7, 2008, at the age of 67. She was born in ‘Ele‘ele on Aug. 3, 1940, to Ethel and Alex Gomez. Aunty Puanani graduated from St. Francis High School on O‘ahu and the Kauai Technical Institute. She retired from Kauai Electric after 30 years of service in the accounting department. She was also a retired officer and member of Hale O Na‘Ali‘i O Hawai‘i.
She is survived by brother James (Heike) Fujita; niece Michelle (Richard) Anama; nephews Chris (Jenny) Fujita, Kawika Fujita and Keola (Andrea) Fujita; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Laakea and Piikea Fujita, Kalei and Kanoa Fujita, and Kela and Pono Anama; cousins Luana Yamato, Nani Hall, and Ulu Lee; Uncle George Furtado; Aunt Mildred Miller; and numerous other cousins and friends.
Aunty Puanani will be remembered for her kind spirit and generous heart. She loved dancing kachi kachi, singing Hawaiian music, cooking and crocheting. She took care of many and was devoted to her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to all those who touched Aunty Puanani’s life, especially in her final days.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, at Holy Cross Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Mary Ludington
Mary Achi Ludington of Waipouli died June 7, 2008, at Hale Kupuna Care Home at the age of 94. Born March 29, 1914, in Ann Arbor, Mich., she was retired 25 years from Hawaiian Airlines.
She was a member of the Harmony Chapter #4 of the Eastern Star, member of Hale O Na Ali’i Hawaii Inc., Mokihana Club and the Kaua‘i Chinese Heritage Society. She also volunteered at the Kaua‘i Museum.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Ludington, brothers Stanford Achi, Richard Achi, Stanley Achi; sister Rebecca Allen, son Kunane Ludington and granddaughter Kehau Hazelbaker.
She is survived by daughter Ann (Greg) McIntosh, son Kaina (Bonnie) Ludington, daughter-in-law Betsy Ludington, sister-in-law June Achi, grandchildren James (Noe) Leake, Kaipo Ludington, Bobby (Theresa) Ludington, Ho’olai (Calvin) Braun, John (Chelsie) Ludington, Wilabeth Ludington, Jan (Homer) Blake, Mita (David) Kaneakua and Chris (Michelle) Ludington; 16 great-grandchildren and also one great-great-granddaughter.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church. Memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Moses Koani
Moses “Moki” Kealoha Koani of Waimea died June 14, 2008, at his home in Waimea. Born Jan. 10, 1931, in Waimea, he was a retired electrical contractor, 1949 Kamehameha School graduate and he served in the Army in the Korean War.
He is survived by brothers David K. Koani of Honolulu, George (Panaiwa) Koani of Waimea and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the Veteran’s Cemetery. Memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Casual attire is suggested.

Darren Gonsalves
Darren John Iosepa Gonsalves of ‘Oma‘o died June 14, 2008, at Hanalei at the age of 46. Born on June 3, 1962, in Kaua‘i, he was a loving father, son, brother and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by wife Marissa J. Gonsalves, mother Agnes Gonsalves, brother Gavin Gonsalves and granddaughter Miya Gonsalves.
He is survived by son Jared (Heather) Gonsalves of Waipahu, O‘ahu, two grandchildren, father Jimmy Gonsalves of Kekaha, brother Dayne (Toni) Gonsalves of Kekaha, sister Keikilani Gonsalves of Kekaha, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at the Wong’s Restaurant in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.
