Basilio Gambon
Basilio Gambon of Koloa died July 1, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 99. Born Feb. 25, 1909, in the Philippines, he was a laborer for Grove Farm.
He is survived by children Leonida Mendez of the Philippines, Christina (Florentino) Miranda of California, Consolacion Sy of California, Lourdes (Wilfredo) Rabena of Koloa, Magdalena Gambon of California and Virginia (Alex) Quintin of Nevada; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at St. Raphaels Church in Koloa; Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.
Anjannette Duyanen
Anjannette Paulina Jean Duyanen of Hanama‘ulu died June 26, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 4. She was born Oct. 17, 2003, in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in death by family members Melchor Duyanen, Argonia Duyanen, Joaquina “Jean” Eulalio, Leoncio Eulalio, Leonardo Tomboc, Johnetta Quel and Stephen Palla-Quel.
She is survived by parents Roldan and Cassity Quel Duyanen; sister Angelica Duyanen; grandparents Pacifico and Clementine Quel, and Antonio and Elvira Duyanen; great-grandparents Louis and Felicidad Quel, Paulina Alambra and Valeris Duyanen; and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Immaculate Conception Church; Mass will be at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire is suggested.
Joseph Freitas Sr.
Joseph Freitas Sr. of Kalaheo died July 6, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 85. Born September 10, 1922, in Lawa‘i, he was a truck driver with McBryde Plantation.
He was preceded in death by son Rodney Freitas and daughter Loretta Freitas Troyer.
He is survived by wife Frances Freitas; sons Michael (Sharon) Freitas and Joey Freitas, both of Kalaheo; daughters Bernie Soto of Hanapepe, Miss Frannie (Dickie) Silva of Kalaheo and Laurie (Wesley) Chow of Kalaheo; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Minnie Soto of ‘Oma‘o; sisters-in-law Margaret Freitas, Minnie Freitas and Emma Freitas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Holy Cross Church; Mass at 1:30 p.m. followed by burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Gene Leebert Schumacher of Lihu‘e died July 4, 2008, at home at the age of 53. He was born June 14, 1955, in Lihu‘e.
He was preceded in death by father Carl W. Schumacher Jr.
He is survived by spouse DeLee Halia Beaudry, mother Ululani J. Schumacher, brothers Carl W. (Annie) Schumacher III and Jeffery H. Schumacher, nephew Kyle Adam Schumacher, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Lihue Lutheran Church; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Eugenio Dela Cruz Macugay Sr. of Wailua died May 5, 2008, at Queens Medical Center at the age of 76. Born Nov. 15, 1931, in Laoag, Philippines, he was employed at Lihue Plantation.
He was preceded in death by parents Maximo and Valeriana Macugay, stepmother Purificacion Macugay, brothers Rodrigo Macugay and Ricardo Macugay, and mother-in-law Catalina Ramos.
He is survived by wife Herminia Ramos Macugay of Wailua; children Elena (Ernesto) Vidad of the Philippines, Eddie (Myrna) Macugay of Maui, Marisa Valdez of Hanama‘ulu, Peter (Femar) of Kapa‘a, Eugenio (Mel) Macugay Jr. of Las Vegas, Danny (Jackie) Macugay of Wailua, Joel (Dawn) of Washington, Mark Macugay of Abu Dhabi; father-in-law Ulpiano Ramos of the Philippines; brothers Nabigio (Amparo, deceased) Macugay; sisters Esperanza (Casamiro) Tumaneng of the Philippines, Pacita (Anatalio, deceased) Ramos of the Philippines; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Tadao Sunada
Tadao Sunada of Hanalei died June 29, 2008, at his residence at the age of 84. Born April 7, 1924, in Ko‘olau, Hawai‘i, he was a taro farmer and truck driver with Kobayashi Construction.
He is survived by sister-in-law Mabel Sunada of Kilauea, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at the Kapaa Hongwanji Mission; service at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Dorothy Murphy
Dorothy A. Murphy of Lihu‘e died July 4, 2008, at Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 83. Born Nov. 10, 1924, in Norwalk, Conn., she retired as an executive secretary at Rockwell International.
She was preceded in death by husband James, son Mark and daughter Robin Elizabeth.
She is survived by daughter Debra (Fred) Ryll of Kaua‘i, Melissa Rupert of Maui, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
