LIHU‘E — The Eastside hotel reported to be the location of a recent sexual assault has been identified through police documents as Lihu‘e’s Kaua‘i Beach Villas, a collection of oceanfront condominium resort vacation rentals.
According to a daily listing of reported incidents provided by the Kaua‘i Police Department, an officer was sent to a street location detailed as “KAUAI BEACH” to investigate a report of first-degree sexual assault — a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison — at 3:24 p.m., Jan. 18.
KPD previously acknowledged the existence of an investigation into an incident at an Eastside hotel, but had declined to identify the location on the grounds that it could open the department up to liability, a senior official said this week.
Calls made to a pair of nearby resorts were met with denials, and a pair of anonymous messages left at The Garden Island also pointed to the Kaua‘i Beach Villas.
Attempts to reach the office for the condominiums for comment were ineffectual.
An individual twice put The Garden Island on hold for upwards of 15 minutes before saying, “It sounds like something the police are dealing with.”
KPD has not yet announced any arrests in connection with the incident, but said the investigation is ongoing.
The public is asked to contact police dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887 if they have any information about the incident.
