Gregory “Kila Boy” Sanay Jr. of Anahola died Jan. 25, 2009, at age 30. Born Nov. 28, 1978, in Lihu‘e, he was a cook for Road Runner Cafe in Kilauea and a truck driver for Trash Co.
He was preceded in death by parents Gregory and Rosemary Sanay Sr.
He is survived by hanai parents Olinda Higashi of Anahola, Jerry Kaneholani and Noreen Kaneholani of Kapa‘a and Cheryl Kaneholani of Anahola; hanai children Beesh, Lele, Bubba and Pooty Sanay of Anahola; sisters Shayda (Dominic) Sanay of Anahola, Naomi Kaneholani-Cummings of Kapa‘a, Alicia (Audwin) Lui-Sanay of Kekaha, Elizabeth (Cory) Sanay-Pa‘aoao of Kekaha; brothers Preston Sanay Sr. of Anahola and Gregory (Jessica) Paku of O‘ahu; and numerous uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Olinda Higashi’s home at 3834 Mahuahua Road in Anahola; service to follow at 11 a.m.

Matea Ragasa
Matea Guzman Ragasa of Kilauea died Jan. 17, 2009, at Garden Isle Health Care at age 90. Born Feb. 24, 1918, in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she retired as a laborer with Lanai Plantation.
She is survived by sons Crescencio “Chris” (Dolores) Ragasa of Kilauea and Theodore (Marites) Ragasa of Pearl City; grandchildren Cris Ragasa, Christopher Ragasa, Clyde Ragasa, Darren Ragasa, Eric Ragasa, Rica Ragasa, great-grandson Rhys Ragasa; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. during a celebration of her life on Saturday, Feb. 7, at St. Catherine’s Church; mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Vince Efhan
Vince “Kutie” Allen Efhan of Keapana died Jan. 25, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 54. Born April 30, 1954, in Lihu‘e, he was an herbicide supervisor with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by Maximo and Trinidad Efhan.
He is survived by wife Holiday Efhan of Keapana; sons Vince (Kaulana) Efhan of Kapa‘a, Ikaika (Jobyna Tumbaga) Efhan of Kekaha, Tyler Efhan of Keapana; daughters Kaulana (Michael Bonachita Jr.) Efhan of Hanapepe, Ashley (Keone Pierce) Efhan of Las Vegas; sisters Wanda (Peter) Rodenborn of Maui, Natalie “Tootsie” Carlos (Thomas Newsome) of Wailua Houselots, Karen (Paul) Schroner of Maui; brothers Maximo “Bolo” Efhan of Maui, Clyde “Pinko” (Janell) Efhan of Arizona; grandchildren Mason Huddy, Keone Pierce, Mykah Bonachita, Mahina Pierce; in-laws John and Barbara Cummings of Anahola; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. during a celebration of his life on Friday, Feb. 6, at Kapa‘a Assembly of God; services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes to follow at the “Lihi” in Kapa‘a.

Bernardo Garcia “Andong” Reyes Sr. of Kapa‘a died Jan. 27, 2009, at Garden Isle Healthcare Center at age 86. Born June 16, 1922, in Galimuyad, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a retired irrigator at Lihu‘e Plantation and laborer at Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping Inc.
He was preceded in death by parents Rufino and Marcosa Reyes, brothers Alfredo and Alejandro Reyes, and grandchildren Brandon and Sarai Reyes.
He is survived by wife Patricia Gagarin Reyes; daughters Luisita (Aliivaa) Valaau of Honolulu and Clarissa (Brian Cadiam) Reyes of Kapa‘a; sons Bernardo (Eliros) Reyes Jr. of Puhi and Edmundo Reyes of Kapa‘a; sisters Rosa Naungayan and Caridad Lanuza, both of the Philippines; brothers Jose Reyes, Carlito Reyes, Enrique Reyes, all of the Philippines; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Leonido Gagarin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, and again from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a where mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery.

Melvin Kneip
Melvin Muriel Kneip of Kapa‘a died Jan. 25, 2009, in Hawai‘i at age 49. Born March 28, 1959, in Uvalde, Texas, he was a construction worker and mechanic.
He was preceded in death by father Delvin A. Kneip, brother Delvin W. Kneip and granddaughter Victoria Layne Hicks.
He is survived by mother Pauline Kneip of Camp Wood, Texas; daughters April (Randy Jr.) Hicks of Uvalde, Texas, Sarah (Matthew) Graham of Utopia, Texas, and Kristina Kneip of Pomona, Calif.; son Melvin Jr. of Pomona, Calif.; sisters Melba (Leonard) Specht of George West, Texas, Janice (Roger) Balentine of Spring Branch, Texas, Wanda Thompson of Junction, Texas; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Sally Mieko Higuchi of Kaneohe, Hawai‘i, died Jan. 4, 2009, in Kaneohe at age 75. Born Dec. 2, 1933, in Honolulu, she was a retired clerk.
She is survived by companion Cedric Tanaka and sister Amy (Mamoru) Yamada, and several nieces and nephews.

Josephine “Josie” Chansky of Kapahi died Feb. 3, 2009, at home at age of 83. Born Sept. 7, 1925, in Kealia, she retired as a bank teller with First Hawaiian Bank.
She is survived by brother Alfred Silva; sisters Emily Rapozo and Virginia Rosa, all of Kapa‘a; nephew and caregiver Manuel “Macky” (Sheila) DeSilva of Kapa‘a; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ralph Simpson Morehead died Jan. 17, 2009, in Bend, Ore., at age 81. Born in Great Falls, Mont., he was a retired mechanical engineer.
He is survived by wife Dorothy Allen Morehead of Bend, Ore.; sons Bruce (Angela) Morehead of Po‘ipu and John (Anna) Morehead of Lawa‘i; daughter Diane (Gregory) Barber of Bend, Ore.; mother Dorothy Morehead; brother Richard (Linda) Morehead; sisters Shirley (Dick) Dixon and Carol (Jim) Cox, all of California; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of Ralph’s life was held in Bend, Ore.
