David Miller finished the 5K portion of the annual Ha‘ena to Hanalei Walk/Run in 18:40 (6:01 pace) to lead the field of more than 500 participants who took part in the event, Saturday morning.
Mary Mair, secretary of the Hanalei Canoe Club, said the participants were blessed with a light rain at 5 a.m. followed by the appearance of a beautiful moon.
Stacy Ricciardi, running in the women 40-49 division, was the first wahine finisher in the 5K run, crossing at 22:25 (7:14 pace).
Ka‘eo Kruse, running in the 11-14 division, topped the keiki 1-mile run on a 5:15 finish, challenged by Koby Stein crossing about 15 seconds later at 5:31, and Marcus Bloss stopping the clock at 5:35 for third overall finish.
Sunny Patey, running in the 7-10 division, was the first female in the keiki 1-mile, sharing the crossing with Sabrina Marvin as both girls crossed at 5:44 for fifth and sixth overall.
Nic Clark, running in the 20-29 division, topped the 8-mile run event on a 46:55 crossing (5:52 pace) followed by Alan Ryan, running in the 30-39 division at 47:10 (5:54 pace).
Joshua Herr, running in the 11-14 division, was fifth overall in the event, stopping the clock at 54:41 (6:51 pace). That performance was faster than the first overall female, Elizabeth Leonard who finished the course at 56:41 for 10th overall at a 7:06 pace.
Mark Goodman, walking in the 50-59 division, topped the 8-mile walk on a 1:30.34 walk (11:20 pace) followed by Jim Spear in the 60-69 division stopping the clock at 1:31.21 (11:26 pace). Jay H. Taylor, 40-49 division, was third at 1:36.29 (12:04 pace).
Jakki Nelson, walking in the 40-49 division, was the first female walker, stopping the clock at 1:36.34 (12:05 pace) in fourth overall.
Chris Nightingale was one of the elders, walking in the 70-99 division and stopping the clock at 1:39.50 (12:29 pace) in seventh place overall.
Madison Hinkel and Brock Williams, both walking in the 11-14 division as one of the youngest in that event, stopped the clock at 1:42.51 each for 11th and 12th places, overall.
