LIHU‘E — Waimea High School and Kaua‘i High School swept the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air riflery matches, Thursday.
Traveling to the Kapa‘a High School campus, the Menehune men outshot the Warrior men, 1,043-890 while its wahine squad emerged victorious with a 1,046-768 margin over Kapa‘a.
At the Kaua‘i High School complex, the Red Raider boys were up 1,600-1,503 over Island School while the Kaua‘i girls ended 1,128-606 after one of the Island School girls succumbed to illness and was unable to finish all three phases.
Kaua‘i’s Tyler Navarro, shooting in the second relay, finished with the second-best showing of the day at 235, equalling Waimea’s Amlan Fujimura in the prone position at 87 points, but pulling ahead in the kneeling position with 78 points.
Shaun Koide (220), Samuel Lang (210), Sheldon Chu (207) and Travis Navarro (190) accounted for the Kaua‘i boys team scoring.
Island School’s Justin-Riley Louis finished with the best score of the day at 239, getting ahead of Tyler in the standing position by three points. Louis finished with 73 in the standing and 79 in the kneeling.
He was followed by Logan Domingo (216), Nicholas Moore (194), Zebulon Leech-Kritchman (192) and Aaron Rozon (191) in the team scoring.
Kapa‘a’s Marvin Woods carded the best scoring at the Kapa‘a site at 220, but was the sole Warrior to break the 200-mark. He was followed by Adam Clark (176), Hunter Bilbo (175), Thomas Woods (171) and Jameson Macadamia (148).
John Medeiros topped the Waimea boys at 213 followed by Fujimura (211), Wesley Sakamoto (211), Marius Foudila (206) and Austin Kunishige (202).
Kendra Ishida of Waimea finished with the highest point of the day at 213 followed by Brandi Briones at 211. Melissa Kagawa (208), Leann Lazaro (207) and Bessie Baclig (207) rounded out the scoring Menehune.
Kaylin Armstrong-Shiira topped the Kapa‘a girls’ scoring at 175 followed by Amy Niwa (167), Jessica Lactaotao (156), Lana Bilbo (144) and Kristina Ragusant (126).
Brianne Hornos topped the scoring for Kaua‘i at 204 followed by Kristyn Yamamotoya (201), Meghan Fujimoto (193), Desiree Morden (179) and Taylor Lundington (176).
Lindsey Duarte, firing in the second relay for Island School, finished at 195 followed by Griffin Lord at 159, Jasmine Kali at 153 and Stephanie Steuri, normally Island School’s 1-2 shooter, adding 99 points.
The KIF air riflery competition continues Thursday when Kaua‘i travels to Kapa‘a and Island School hosts Waimea. Both matches start at 3 p.m.
