Waimea High School girls volleyball will open its bid for the state Division II volleyball title Wednesday against Kailua starting at 7 p.m.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion Menehune, finishing its season undefeated in regular season play, did not receive a seeding for the New City Nissan Girls Volleyball State Championships, Division II.
Waimea will play Kailua at Farrington High School Gym starting at 7 p.m., Wednesday. If successful in its opening round, coach Chad Delanoza and the Menehune will advance to face Hawai‘i Baptist, the No. 1 seed for Division II, on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Farrington gym.
Molokai picked up the No. 2 seed for Division II followed by the Kaiser Cougars at No. 3 and the Hilo Vikings earning the No. 4 seed.
Other teams participating in Division II include Castle, Seabury Hall, Honoka‘a, University, Word of Life and Hawai‘i Prep.
Punahou was named the No. 1 seed for Division I followed by Kahuku, Waiakea and Kamehameha Schools-Maui filling in Nos. 2-4, respectively.
Other teams participating in Division I include Farrington, Roosevelt, Moanalua, Kamehameha Schools-Big Island, Baldwin, Mililani, Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama and Aiea.
Championships for both Division I and II will take place Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa campus.
The Division II championships start at 5 p.m. followed by the Division I championship starting at 7 p.m.
