LIHU‘E — The Wil Veech soccer tournament features the top two teams from the Under 12 boys and girls from both Region 940 and Region 941 of the American Youth Soccer Organization.
The Under 12 squads will be joined by the top two teams from the Under 14 boys and girls from both regions.
The Wil Veech tournament brings the AYSO season to a close for the two age brackets in a week-long series of games that will determine the island winners for each of the divisions.
Earlier, the regions closed the season by featuring a soccer fun day for the Under 6 and Under 8 players where teams enjoyed goodwill soccer matches followed by food, fellowship and bouncers.
The Under 10 division wrapped up its season last week with the AYSO Friendship Games played at the Weinberg Sports Park where Region 940 teams and Region 941 teams squared off against each other in friendly competition.
When the Wil Veech tournament opens at 4:30 p.m., today, two games will be played at the North Vidinha field and one game, the Under 14 girls, will be on the Vidinha Stadium field.
The Region 940 No. 2 team, Lihu‘e Date (Clovers) will go up against the Region 941 No. 1 team (North-Kevin) in one of the Under 12 games. The other Under 12 match will feature the No. 2 team from Region 941 (East-Leota) going up against the No. 1 team from Region 940 (Lihu‘e-Caires).
In the stadium, The No. 1 Region 941 team will square off against the Region 940 No. 2 team (Lihu‘e-Cabreira). That game will be followed by the No. 1 Region 940 team (Waimea-Trugillo) going up against the No. 2 Region 941 team starting at 6:15 p.m.
Tuesday’s matches will feature the Under 12 boys teams playing the 4:30 p.m. matches at the North Vidinha fields and one Under 14 boys match inside the stadium.
Wednesday will be the finals for the girls with single games starting at 4:30 and 6:15 p.m.
Thursday will be the finals for the boys with single games starting at 4:30 and 6:15 p.m.
