Coffee grows in tall, round bushes. But if you’re looking for an “Irish Coffee,” in Trees is where you’ll find it. This is a perfect time to try this holy drink; St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday, and Trees Lounge will be offering discounts on all kinds of Irish drinks.
The funny thing about Ireland’s most famous holiday is that St. Patrick was actually English, and was never officially canonized by a Pope. He was captured at the age of 14 by Irish raiders, and after six years of enslavement he escaped and returned home. Later, as an ordained bishop, he returned to Ireland, where he spent the rest of his days.
Bartender and waitress Taeru Andrade can easily disarm with her glimmering smile any unruly Irish. But in case the smile doesn’t work, this local girl is a gifted fighter.
Back in 1998 she competed in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan American Games. With only three months of training, she came back home with a gold medal, beating — and tapping out — girls with years of training. But don’t worry, as long as you pay your bill and be nice to her, she won’t use her fighting skills.
St. Patrick’s is one of Trees Lounge busiest nights of the year. Rock’n’roll band Battery Alley will rock the house, and yes, dancing will be allowed.
Irish Coffee
11/2 ounce of Jameson Irish whiskey
Fresh-brewed coffee
Sugar
Whipped cream
Pour the Jameson in a clear latte mug, and fill it up with coffee. Add sugar if you like it sweet, and top it with whipped cream. This should be your first drink in St. Patrick’s Day, as you’ll be awake a little longer than other drunken sham-rocking revelers.
