Chas Okamoto, playing the No. 1 singles for boys, was the sole Kapa‘a win, 6-0, 6-0 over Otis Llewellyn in the Warriors’ 5-1 loss in the boys matches.
In the girls matches, Kapa‘a wahine prevailed, 3-2.
Kaua‘i’s B.J. Kai defeated Kapa‘a’s Shaun Rabaino, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 Boys Singles.
The team of Matthew Kanna and Jerik Centeno downed the Kapa‘a duo of Hunter Bilbo and Brad Heiser, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 Boys Doubles, and the Red Raider pair of Matthew Mizukami and Lance Matsumoto took the No. 2 Boys Doubles, 6-0, 6-0 over the Kapa‘a duo of Justin Medina and Reggie Agaran.
Kevin Jian and Justin Fujikawa wrapped up the Boys No. 3 Doubles with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Kapa‘a’s Ryan Lopez and Jarrod Shin.
Kaua‘i also took the exhibition boys match when John Quisel and Fujikawa got past Andrew Obiano and Charles Kong, 6-3, 6-3.
Sarah Kukino led the Kaua‘i girls, taking the No. 1 Singles, 6-0, 6-0 over Warrior Joni Esaki. Shay Orial pocketed the second Kaua‘i win, 6-1, 6-1 over Jamie Brun in the Girls No. 2 Singles.
Kapa‘a controlled all three doubles matches, the duo of Alexis Valdez and Sierra Mayer getting past Kaua‘i’s Jennifer Grady and Jasmine Ikeda, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Kapa‘a’s Kaylie Nakamura and Jazzerie Taexa defeated Kaua‘i’s Raisa Carlos and Kari Noe, 6-4, 6-4 for the Girls No. 2 Doubles, and Kapa‘a’s Kara Lee Higa and Jaimee Gali got past the Red Raider pair of Sawalak Khae-Chawat and Gillian Gregorio, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Kaua‘i girls took the exhibition match when the duo of Noe Murray and Danika Thompson took a 6-1 win over Sierra Riemer and Anuhea Panui.
Waimea High School will open its season Saturday when it travels to the Kaua‘i Community College courts against Island School starting at noon.
