LIHU‘E — The deadline for being a sponsor at the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce 11th annual scholarship golf tournament is Aug. 16 for the tournament, which will play Sept. 3 at the Wailua Golf Course
Sponsorship packages of $1,000, $500, $300, and a hole sponsorship for $100 are available. For non-golfers who would like to attend the post-golf awards luncheon, the cost is $15 per person and the deadline for reservations is Aug. 16.
Checks should be made payable to the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 3618, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
Eddie Topenio, the golf chairman, and Marynel Valenciano, president of the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce, said the scholarship golf tournament is the only fundraising event for the scholarship program.
The deadline for golfers to register for the tournament is 6 p.m., Aug. 27.
Registration is $80 per golfer and includes green fees, cart and the post-golf luncheon which will take place at the Lydgate Park pavilion with door prizes, food and Filipino delicacies.
Tournament format is individual medal play with men having a maximum handicap of 32 and women having a maximum of 40.
Registration on Sept. 3 starts at 6 a.m. with a shotgun start at 7 a.m.
At stake is the grand prize of $500 in cash or merchandise.
Proceeds from the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce 11th annual scholarship golf tournament go to the Filipino Chamber’s scholarship program, which has awarded more than $75,000 to deserving students on Kaua‘i since the program started.
In 2012, the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce presented $5,000 in scholarships to five students graduating from high school. The students included:
•Brad Beeksma, a Kaua‘i High School graduate who plans to attend Biola University with a major in physical science and mechanical engineering.
•Isabelle Curtis, another Kaua‘i High School graduate, who wants to pursue a degree in physical therapy, specializing in children and athletes at San Diego State University.
•Nathan Morales, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama campus, will be heading to the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa to pursue a degree in electrical engineering.
•Julie Anne Sagabaen, a Kaua‘i High School graduate, will be heading to the University of Hawai‘i, Hilo.
•Carla Raquel Tuzon, a graduate of Kapa‘a High School, will be heading to Vanguard University in Southern California to major in pre-medicine with hopes of becoming a pediatrician.
