As I made my way through the lobby of the Kaua‘i Beach Resort, bumping shoulder to shoulder through a crowd of visitors, thoughts of the famed Naupaka Terrace raced through my mind.
Two weeks prior to this meeting, Resort Manager Tracy Ford invited Kaua‘i Times to take part in Naupaka Terrace’s signature seafood buffet. Without hesitation, I accepted Ford’s invitation. Two weeks of anticipation was worth the wait.
Saturday nights at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort just got a whole lot tastier. Naupaka Terrace’s signature seafood buffet is from 6 to 9 p.m. every Saturday. An array of onolicious grinds are ripe for the picking. The price of the buffet is $44.95 for adults and $23.95 for children 5 to 12 years of age.
This all-you-can-eat buffet is lined with a salad bar, seafood bar, hot entrees, carving station and a dessert station.
In the salad bar, patrons have their pick of fresh sushi rolls, fresh sliced fruit, spicy vegetable slaw and four types of salads. Salads include Caesar, Baja seafood, Chinese Chicken and Somen.
As you make your way to the seafood bar, you have your choice of traditional, Hawaiian-style poke, shrimp and mussels in a half shell.
After the seafood bar, four delicious hot entrees will have your stomach growling: Choices include Steamed Island Fish with Pineapple Papaya Salsa; Sweet Chili Chicken with Fettuccini Pasta; Island Fish Katsu with Dripping Sauce; and Steamed Crab Legs with Drawn Butter. Of course, mashed potatoes and steamed white rice are also available.
There is also a carving station that serves roasted sirloin with Au Jus and horseradish.
When you’ve had your fill of all the delicious salads and entrees that the buffet offers, make sure to leave room for dessert. The dessert station is filled with freshly baked desserts from the bake shop. There are too many desserts to mention, but they are all very delicious. Also included is a sundae station.
I’m getting full just talking about this wonderful seafood buffet.
After observing all the onolicious grinds of the seafood buffet, I sat down and was served appetizers and entrees from the kitchen. My waiter for the night, Erwin, served with enthusiasm and was very friendly.
First on the menu was the Ahi Poki Tostada, priced at $9. This starter was pieces of seared tuna poki, accompanied with Baja slaw, Asian guacamole, chili cream and a wonton chip.
Next up was some pasta. I was served a Rigatona priced at $20. The Rigatoni was handsomely decorated, standing upright and surrounded by Arrabiata sauce and topped off with an Italian sausage on the top. Two wines were served with this delicious pasta dish: Fume Blanc priced at $7 a glass and Pinot Noir priced at $6 a glass. Both wines complemented the dish to perfection.
The last two items served were healthier alternatives to normal entrees. These two dishes are perfect for veggie eaters. First was the Grilled Char Siu Tofu Steak priced at $17. The tofu steak is marinated in char siu sauce then grilled. It comes with coconut-infused mango fried rice and roast tomato salad. Second on the list was the Brussels sprouts and red potato dish priced at $7. The dish is lightly fried in sesame seed oil and mixed with shoyu sauce and onions (you can also add bacon for no additional charge).
I have nothing but praise for staff at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort. They prepare a meal that is unbelievable, onolicious and will have you coming back over and over again.
