LIHU‘E — Parents, families and the public are invited to learn more and share their hopes and dreams for Kaua‘i’s young people through a series of three community meetings.
The first meeting will be Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Waimea Neighborhood Center where the public can learn more about Keiki to Career Kaua‘i, which celebrated its rollout Friday.
Another meeting is scheduled for April 25 at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and a final meeting will be April 26 at Kilauea Neighborhood Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
More than 25 groups have been working collaboratively since August 2011 to create an innovative continuum of services, which support the academic, social, emotional and physical development of children, youth and young adults, states a release from the Kaua‘i Planning & Action Alliance.
“We see this as a long-term effort and our mission is to unite the entire community in nurturing and developing Kaua‘i’s young people from keiki to career,” KPAA president and CEO Diane Zachary said.
Phyllis Kunimura of K.I.D.S. School said the emphasis of the new cross-sector youth development initiative changes from “career” to “youth” in this program.
The Navigation Plan is designed to ensure readiness at each key transition point in a young person’s life to enhance success and well-being.
