Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning entertainer Kekai Chock said the “old” ‘ukulele was better than the one Kehau Schimmelfennig won from the silent auction at the first Kaua‘i ‘Ukulele Festival held at the Kukui Grove Center … kudos to Kirk and Tora Smith of Hanalei Strings for braving all the rain to unload all those Kala Brand ‘ukulele (who got the sparkly one?), and kudos, Amy Hammond, Melissa McFerrin Warrack, Greg Askew, and yes, even Santa in Paradise for getting the first for Kaua‘i ‘Ukulele Festival off the ground and running despite the threat of Round 2 of heavy rains.
