LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a High School softball swept Kaua‘i High School with a pair of 5-inning shortened wins, 27-9 and 14-1, on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation contests that were played at Isenberg Park on the same night the Red Raider girls were involved with the school’s prom.
LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a High School softball swept Kaua‘i High School with a pair of 5-inning shortened wins, 27-9 and 14-1, on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation contests that were played at Isenberg Park on the same night the Red Raider girls were involved with the school’s prom.
The wins improved the team to 5-0-0 in the KIF standings and set the stage for a Wednesday meeting when Waimea High School visits the Kapa‘a diamond for a single contest starting at 6 p.m.
During the 27-9 victory, the Lady Warriors had 17 hits, including a pair of home runs from Hailey Gibson and Charlize Kenney.
The Red Raiders were limited to eight hits for their nine runs, led by a home run apiece by D. Batoon and M. Marty. The Kaua‘i home runs accounted for five of the team’s nine runs.
The Lady Warriors continued their lumberyard swinging in the 14-1 nightcap where Kapa‘a pounded out 14 hits for its 14 runs, led by home runs by Gibson and Rhea Furtado. The two home runs accounted for seven runs crossing the plate.
The Red Raiders were limited to just two whacks, one by center fielder Cheyley Jacobs and the other by pitcher Camryn Yates.
Following the results of the wins on Saturday, according to stats on the Scoring Live website, Kapa‘a’s Sienna Yamashita is designated as the team’s leading hitter with 12 conks, including five two-baggers. Furtado chalked up the most runs with 18. Kenney leads the team in home runs with four and Gibson has credit for the most RBI with 23.
Kapa‘a next hosts Waimea High School in a single contest on Wednesday when the first pitch serves up starting at 6 p.m. at the Kapa‘ High School softball diamond.
