Jeremiah G. Nerpio, Sr.
Jeremiah G. Nerpio, Sr., of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 19, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on July 24, 1951. He was a security guard.
He was preceded in death by wife Sharon Nerpio.
He is survived by sons Jeremiah G. Nerpio, Jr., Chad Justin Nerpio (Ashley), Brandon Kawika Nerpio (Lisa), Levi Paul Nerpio (Nani), daughter Phaedra Talia Figlinski (Tim), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness in Kekaka. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. followed by service at 3 p.m. The family requests aloha attire.

Gladys Soyoko Sugihara
Gladys Soyoko Sugihara, 92, of Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, passed away on Jan. 9, 2024. She was born on June 30, 1931, in Kawaihau, Kaua‘i, to the late Kiyoshi and Tsugiyo Shiraki. Gladys was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Sugihara, and her brother, Clarence Shiraki.
Gladys attended Kaua‘i High School and later embarked on a career in the travel industry. She worked at Duarte U-Drive and Tours, and at Grayline Kaua‘i for many years as a greeter, where she welcomed visitors to the island.
Gladys is survived by her loving sons, Lawton (Naomi) Sugihara, Keith (Lauren) Sugihara. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay (Christopher) Yuh, Kristen Sugihara, Mandy Sugihara, great-grandchildren, Rylee and Cayden Yuh. Gladys is also survived by her sister-in-law, Katherine Shiraki, brothers-in-law Harry Sugihara, Robert Sugihara, as well as many cousins and relatives.
Gladys’s life was also enriched by her special caregivers, Yolanda Yamauchi, Cheryll Agtarap, Alma LaRoque and Marilyn Tingzon.
The family requests no monetary offering (koden) or flowers.
Private services will be held at a later date to honor and remember Gladys Soyoko Sugihara. She will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
Alfonso “Bradda” Martin, Jr.
Alfonso “Bradda” Martin, Jr., of Kalaheo, passed away peacefully at home with his “Hon” children and grandchildren on Dec. 26, 2023, at the age of 65. He was born on Jan. 6, 1958, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was a retired maintenance/mechanic worker for Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 45 beautiful years together, Carolyn “Cal” Martin, sons Ryan (Tanelle) Martin, Sr., Darrin (Loke Ellamar) Martin, daughter Shanelle (Chris “Boysan” Sadaoka) Martin, grandchildren Ryan “RJ” Martin, Jr., Darian Martin, Kanoa Martin, Shyann Martin Patricio, Tiare Martin, Raidyn Martin Sadaoka, Kori Ann Martin, Zyan Martin Sadaoka, Martin “16” Strong, mother Peaches Cullen of Kamuela, sisters Theri-Lynn (Travis) Martin Haumea of Kalaheo, Alexis-Awapuhi (Duffy) Cullen Duldulao of Big Island, Marilyn (Roy) Kaululaau of Oahu, Puanani (Tom) Schierenbeck of California, Leilani (Joseph) Nullar of Big Island, brother-in-law Randall “Randy” Fernandez of Big Island, sisters-in-law June Matsuda of Big Island and Desiree (Clyde) Kaluahine of Hanama‘ulu.
He was preceded in death by in-laws Harold and Bettyann Fernandez and father Alfonso M. Martin, Sr.
Also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of a life so precious, loved and lived. The family requests casual attire.

Mildred Tazuko Kurihara
Mildred Tazuko Kurihara, of Wailua Houselots, passed away on Dec. 20, 2023, in Lihu‘e at the age of 91. She was born on Jan. 31, 1932, in Wailua. She was a secretary/receptionist for Mokihana Insurance and a store proprietor of Togikawa Store.
She was preceded in death by husband Howard Kurihara, parents Hideo and Yukiko Togikawa, brothers Albert Togikawa, Robert Togikawa, in-laws Eizo and Katsu Kurihara and son-in-law Jeffrey Lindemann.
She is survived by daughters Gale Lindemann of Kaua‘i, Jan (Keith) Tatsuguchi of O‘ahu, grandchildren Jeffrey (Natalie) Lindemann of Texas, Wesley (Shea Pizzolatto) Lindemann of Texas, Robert Lindemann of Kaua‘i, Byron (Cindy Gan) Lindemann of Connecticut, step-great-grandchildren Reign and Iel Lim of Texas, sister Jane (Paul) Okamoto of Hawai‘i (Big Island), brother-in-law Asahi Okamoto of Kaua‘i, sisters-in-law Eleanor Togikawa of O‘ahu, Betty Togikawa of Indiana, Sanae Saito of Maui, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at the Kapa‘a Jodo Mission. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Donations in her memory can be made to Kaua‘i Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Rossiter Ronald Kamealoha Oana, Sr., of Kalaheo, passed away on Jan. 4, 2024, in Kalaheo at the age of 84. He was born on Jan. 23, 1939, in Lihu‘e. He was a telephone linesman with Hawaiian Tel Company and a long-time musician with the Punuas.
He was preceded in death by parents Stanley Manaia Oana, Sr., Elizabeth Leialoha Kanoho Oana, wife Marjorie Napua Rodrigues Oana, son Rosswell Raoul Kaleolani Oana, granddaughter Weslyn Jerves, grandson Don Sadomiano, brother Stanley Manaia (Smokey) Oana, Jr., sisters Eleanor Leinaala Carvalho, Flora Ornellas and son-in-law Wesley Jerves.
He is survived by wife Victoria Navarro Oana, sons Rossiter R. K. Victoria Banua, of Kekaha, passed away on Jan. 4, 2024, in Kekaha at the age of 89. She was born on May 27, 1934, in Mana, Kaua‘i. She was an operations scheduler for the Federal Government at PMRF.
She was preceded in death by husband Herbert Santana Banua, parents Placido and Hertrudes Tango, sisters Felisa Natividad and Magdalena Mayo.
