Kaiu Aki, Kahea Aki (she was the soloist and narrator during the West Kaua‘i Episcopal Church olelo Christmas Eve) and Bailey Kanahele are ready to serve up local treats like cascaron, banana lumpia and pancit during Friday Night Art, Jan. 12, 2024 in Hanapepe.

Mele Kahale of Longie’s (he was cruising in a nearby chair) watches as Sunni Hew sprinkles the finishing touches on a taco treat being held by Tiani Kamaka during Friday Night Art, Jan. 12, 2024, in Hanapepe.

Carol Cocored (her husband Charlie is the leader of the group of about 30), Karen Ebbets and Tiffany Arena stop by the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church outreach benefiting the church’s children choir at Friday Night Art, Jan. 12, 2024, to wrap up a week of volunteering at Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity. Carol said it was so muddy that the group spent most of the week working at the ReStore.

Wes and Mary Pacanas of Da Wonton Shack (Wow! lots of new flavors since the days of the Aloha Market at the National Tropical Botanical Garden South Shore Visitor Center) had their cute little wonton dispensary (one of the advantages of being small) parked across the street from the Talk Story Bookstore (did you meet Natalie, the new “CEO II?”) where Ed Justus said “chicken books” are good sellers — especially “rooster books.” And the Celeste Mochi line is still available.
