LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a High School soccer split its series with Island School and Kaua‘i High School girls notched a 5-3 win over Waimea High School on Saturday in Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer matches played at the Island School soccer fields and Hanapepe Stadium.
Kaua‘i High School girls picked up an early lead going up 3-1 victory at the break before allowing two Waimea goals, and adding two additional goals for the 5-3 final at Hanapepe Stadium.
Scoring goals for Kaua‘i were Kylah Racca, Kyla Pereira, Aileah Viollatoray, Laysa Turner and Coral Turner.
Waimea got two goals from Kendra Knapp and a net from Kendra Suga.
In an exhibition junior varsity boys contest, Waimea got a 7-0 win over Kaua‘i who got the services of five Menehune to enable the teams to proceed.
On the boys field at Hanapepe, Waimea and Kaua‘i battled to a 2-2 stalemate. The Red Raiders got two goals from Kai Potts, and the Menehunes had goals from Shayden Ranis-Alameda Dela Cruz and Kule‘a Kauwe.
Over at the Island School field where the contests were moved up to accommodate scheduling issues for officials, the Island School boys took a 1-0 victory over Kapa‘a after Elzardia Ignacio found the net in the first 10 minutes of play. Both teams waged a defensive slugfest for the remaining 70 minutes.
On the girls field, Kapa‘a struck in the first two minutes as Ava Easterly got the net after Voyager goalkeeper left the goalmouth open in order to defend on a shot by Hi‘ilei Hamberg. Easterly was in position to sink the initial effort by Hamberg. Hamberg came back to score in the 18th minute to give Kapa‘a a 2-0 edge at the break.
Hamberg also charged back in the second half to notch her second goal of the day at the 55th minute, following a goal from Shyloh McCann that settled in the net folds at the 50th minute.
The Kapa‘a girls travel to Vidinha Stadium on Tuesday to tackle Kaua‘i High School at 4 p.m.
Waimea will visit the Island School field, also on Tuesday, to face the Voyager girls at 4 p.m.
The varsity boys play on Wednesday when Kapa‘a comes to Vidinha Stadium, and Waimea visits the Island School field. Both matches start at 4 p.m.
