LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School and Kapa‘a High School battled to deadlocks, and Island School boys took a 4-0 win over Waimea High School on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer matches at Island School and Vidinha Stadium.
Voyager Ignacio Elzardia marked two goals and Sawyer Rogoff marked one to give the Voyagers a 3-0 bulge at the half over Waimea. Rogoff notched his second goal of the day at the 73rd minute to account for the Island School victory.
Results from the girls matches were not available at press time.
Over at the Vidinha Stadium, both Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a waged battle ending in stalemates for both the boys and girls matches.
The Warrior and Red Raider boys battled for 80 minutes to a 0-0 stalemate, and the girls finished with a 1-1 tie. According to KIF rulings, there are no tie-breakers for regular season contests.
On the girls field, Kaua‘i High School midfielder Aileah Villatora marked the first score in the 21st minute, triggering the Warrior girls into offensive mode.
After failing to score another goal in the remaining 20 minutes, the Red Raiders hit the field in the second half in a possession stance that worked until the final seven minutes.
Kapa‘a’s Shyloh McCann was able to secure control over a pair of Kaua‘i defenders and move the ball around the pair before effectively positioning the ball between the Red Raider goalkeeper and the two defenders for the score in the 73rd minute.
The next KIF soccer game takes place on Tuesday when the Waimea boys travel to the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park to take on the Warriors.
The Voyagers visit Vidinha Stadium to battle against the Red Raiders with both games getting underway starting at 4 p.m.
On Wednesday, the Menehune girls visit the BJB Sports Complex stadium to face Kapa‘a. Over at the Vidinha Stadium, Kaua‘i girls will host the Island School girls with both matches starting at 4 p.m.
