KAPA‘A — The Friends of Kapa‘a Public Library announced its single-day Used Book Sale on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The friends were busy setting up tables of books for the sale on Thursday, unpacking boxes and processing incoming titles gleaned from the shelves of the library.
“We’re back,” said Isobel Storch of the Friends of Kapa‘a Public Library. “We haven’t had a used book sale for a while. Our membership is not very big, and we’re not getting any younger so we need to set up early.”
Available titles in Hawaiiana, children’s books, young adult, mysteries, nonfiction, cookbooks, history, paperbacks, romance, classics and more.
Additionally, there will be CDs and DVD titles available.
The friends are also asking for volunteer help on Sept. 9. Interested people can email kapaalibraryfriends@gmail.com.
“We also set up a Keiki Corner for children’s books,” said Storch on the space being used by James and Autumn Tangalin, who are in the process of moving back to Kapa‘a from North Carolina following James’ military tour.
Friends Vice President Mary Ke Allard said everything is priced to sell during the one day.
“The Lahaina Public Library was one of the structures destroyed in the Maui wildfires on Aug. 8,” Allard said. “We’re trying to help them by donating half of the proceeds from the book sale. Additionally, whatever books don’t sell, we’ll be donating to the Lahaina library, who could possibly use them for a local book sale. They don’t have anything. Everything burned.”
Storch said in addition to the books, CDs, there may be some donated baked sale items from members of the Friends of Kapa‘a Library.
“It’s kind of like tradition,” Storch said. “We’ve always had someone, or some people, who found time to create baked goods to help the Friends.”
