Wil Welsh, right, successfully transferred ownership of Wai‘Oli Properties to Lori Benkert, and celebrate the transaction and Welsh’s retirement, Tuesday at the Rice Street offices.

Katrina Sahut, the eldest granddaughter of Aunty Janet Kahalekomo, sets up pa‘akai for sampling, Friday during the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Prince Kuhio Celebration.

Three generations of Palama - Leina Palama, right, of Lei Kinis with her grandmother Lena Palama, left, and mom Nalani (she wanted to be a Pa‘u rider for one more time, but the lineup is full) during the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Prince Kuhio Celebration.

And, how am I supposed to know what kind of vegetables Ka‘apuni Nursery is going to start? I guess we’re up to the selection choices by Laurie Ho (is Amy Chun going to help choose?) of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau, and Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of the Kukui Grove Center. The best tip for the National Agriculture Week celebration is to get there as early as feasible for the 11 a.m. start to ensure the best selections.

Happy retirement to Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa general manager Dan King, who celebrated his last Prince Kuhio Day before retiring following a 42-year career with the Hyatt that took him to 13 different properties.

Cheryl Brady said husband Chuck just retired from the Sheraton Beach Kaua‘i, and will be traveling as part of his retirement celebration.

Congratulations, Wil Welsh, the founder of WaiOli Properties, on his retirement (that Lexus sports car does well as a food transporter) after turning over ownership of WaiOli Properties to Lori Benkert (she’s a Zontian) in a get-together with the neighboring dignitaries like Dave Lister (he said the Rotary Club of Kaua‘i just got permission to clean up the Ninini Point Lighthouse) and Melody Lopez (isn’t she a Zontian, too?) of Catholic Charities.

Kudos, Royal Sonesta for that huge food contribution to the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank that started as a Random Act of Kindness in February and blossomed into a monthlong campaign.

OK, gotta go see what kind of vegetable starters are available at the Agriculture Week Celebration.
