LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 29 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Kaua’i this past week, bringing the total number of cases on the island up to 19,215 since the start of the pandemic.
A total of 18,295 of those cases are listed as confirmed, and the remaining 920 are probable cases. The DOH released its report with the latest data on March 22 and updates it weekly.
There were no new deaths to the virus reported this week, so that number remained unchanged at 47. Two new deaths, both men over the age of 65 with underlying health conditions, were last reported by The Garden Island on March 6.
The Kaua‘i County test positivity rate was 6.7 percent, higher than the state’s average of 5.2 percent.
The DOH reported five new deaths statewide, bringing the Coronavirus-related death toll up to 1,854.
There were also 513 new COVID-19 cases reported, which brings the state’s total case count up to 381,570 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Aside from the 29 new cases on Kaua‘i, there were 305 new cases on Honolulu, 122 new cases on Hawai‘i Island, and 50 new cases on Maui.
The Kaua‘i District Health Office says that people sick with symptoms of COVID-19, as well as close contacts of a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested using a home test or by calling a doctor.
