Mahalo to all the volunteers who turned out Saturday to help the Friends of Lydgate and Kamalani Park get rid of some of the accumulated debris (mostly vegetative, except one lady found some plastic) in preparation for the county’s equipment that’ll finish up the job when the Morgan’s Ponds gets closed temporarily from March 13 to 17.
Kudos to Elyse Litvack of Kumu’s Cupboard, Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center, and Morgan Lopez of Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union, on a successful Read Across America celebration and giveaway on Saturday. Mary Lardizabal and the Kapa‘a Middle School ‘ukulele band were able to get County of Kaua‘i Council Member and former Mayor Bernard Carvalho to sing “Ulupalakua” with the students.
Ron Wiley and Taylor Shigemoto got to read (how did that tall Cat in the Hat do the reading thing?), and, kudos, Laurie Ho (yeah, she’s back Monday with the Pau Hana Market) got the Kaua‘i Family and Community Education to do bookmarks, and Mary and her ‘ukulele band got to sing “Happy Birthday” to Bev Pang, who celebrated her special day on March 1.
Brenda Turville of Showtime Characters (they’re coming back for St. Patrick’s Day!) was thrilled to hear Hank Curtis do “South Pacific” songs, since she was in charge of a production of that musical several years ago.
