Amy (she was also passing out Chinese New Year candy to the market vendors for good luck. You thank the gods for good luck, and ask for more in the new year) said the longan (not, they had a few left during the market) is getting out of season, and so is the rambutan. That leaves tangerines that are available, while supplies last, during the festivities that start from 11 a.m. with the appearance of the Chinese lion.
Kurt Rutter was excited about the first batch of sprouts (Laurie Ho really likes the red beet ones) he had available during the market that were sprouting right in the containers in which they were being sold.
Eric Larsen of the Lihu‘e Public Library said people (presentation geared for kids in kindergarten through grade eight) can enjoy the Hawai‘i Opera Theatre’s “Pirates of Penzance” presentation on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m. at the library on Hardy Street. They have a lot of other exciting events taking place there, too.
Larry Feinstein of the Kaua‘i Beer Co. (“da place between work and home”) said Wednesday is also Pint Night that benefits the Kaua‘i Roller Derby team (da girlz will be there at the picnic tables!) between 5 and 9 p.m., when Kaua‘i Beer Co. will contribute a dollar for every beer, cocktail (perfect opportunity to sample the new family of fresh fruit cocktails, including strawberry guava with strawberry rum, watermelon limeade with vodka, lilikoi limeade margarita and lychee sangria), and wine sold throughout the day.
