Public input sought in Kaua‘i Food Access Plan

LIHU‘E — Malama Kaua‘i is hosting four Community Food Access Meetings, starting Jan. 4, 2023, to focus on how to increase local food access and create sustainable food systems on Kaua‘i.

Community feedback will factor into the draft Kaua‘i Food Access Plan’s goal to improve food access by 2030 for all of Kaua‘i, Malama Kaua‘i said in its meeting notices. This project is supported by the Hawai‘i State Department of Health Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division.

Registration deadline is Dec. 30 through tinyurl.com/KoolauMeeting for the Jan. 4 meeting that will take place at the Anahola Clubhouse from 4 to 6 p.m., and presented with help from Kukulu Kumuhana O Anahola. A free farm-to-table meal will be provided for the first 50 registered attendees at every meeting.

Registration deadline for the Jan. 11 meeting is Jan. 6 through tinyurl.com/PunaMeeting. That meeting will take place at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall from 4 to 6 p.m., and presented in partnership with the Rice Street Business Association.

Registration deadline for the Jan. 18 meeting is Jan. 13 through tinyurl.com/KonaMeeting. That meeting will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at Waimea High School in partnership with Iwikua.

Registration for the final meeting Jan. 25 is by Jan. 20 through tinyurl.com/HaleleaMeeting. That meeting will take place at the Waipa Foundation from 4 to 6 p.m.

Malama Kaua‘i is Kaua‘i’s first and longest running community-based organization focused on increasing local food production and food access for a resilient Kaua‘i.
