Kalena Pacheco’s mom, Gloria, was able to enjoy the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i property, Wednesday, when she accompanied Kalena to her Waipua Gardens booth (did you see that flowering Tillandsia Buchycaulos ‘Abdita?’) at the west walk to Seaview Terrace…Kalena (yes, she’s at the National Tropical Botanical Gardens South Shore Visitor Center Aloha Market on Thursdays, too) said the mayor of Kilauea would have been busy sitting, and instead of talking, would be eating…what a great way for people to get to know the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i.

Kudos, Dan King and all those Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i ‘ohana for getting past The Kaua‘i Marathon, the Charity Walk, and all those big community events they have their hands in!
Onio Punzal (gotta check out his innovative face mask) was on the east walkway to the Seaview Terrace and was busy weaving a coconut frond while taking orders from a guest for an upcoming wedding. Onio was on his Wednesday morning shift taking about niu and its value in Hawaiian culture before taking a two-hour break and starting his afternoon shift at the Kaua‘i Museum where he does weaving instruction (every week is a new project!) to help the museum recover from the COVID pandemic.
And kudos, Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, Patrick Porter, and all those County of Kaua‘i (and Cushnie Construction!) hands for acting on Lee Steinmetz’s kids’ (Liz Hahn said they were about the same age as those Little League World Series winners!) concern about turning Laukona Park into a more community-friendly place…everyone makes a difference!
