LIHU‘E — The National Weather Service has issued a red-flag warning for the leeward areas of Kaua‘i County today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop.
A red-flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will occur shortly. The combination of dry fuels, strong and gusty trade winds and low relative humidity levels could produce extreme fire behavior today, especially during the afternoon hours.
A red-flag warning does not predict new fire starts.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly in these conditions, according to the NWS. The public should not participate in any outdoor burning.
